| Can we have smilies like this and a legend?
»forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/smilies.html
I came across this when I was looking at the forum of another seti@home team. I know some of them are already possible, but it would be cool to be able to express more emotions automatically (ie without actually having to paste in the location of an image) than ,:(,;), , and . If there are others please let me know. I honestly didn't know about before I tried it just now.
From which arises another suggestion: please make a smilie (sp?) legend so we know what to type to get which graphic. I think the text used to get the graphic looks more sad than angry, so maybe the green sad looking icon ( ) should replace it, but that's just my personal opinion. Actually that green one looks more miffed than sad, so something like might be better. -- Use your computer to find ET or the cure.

| reply to doublec16 dc16, Justin is on a bug squashing stomp I think, at least he was, and was going to keep "new features" to a minimum. I know, sometimes it is hard to tell the difference. Anyway, about two weeks ago he did mention he wanted to expand the "smiley face" collection. said by sofaking in Folding: Justin is interested in a whole new set of Smilees, including special ones for Folding and Genome. Go on a Smilee humt, or create your own. Justin "loves" his 3D ones he has now... so make them Special..
So hopefully he will announce something when he is ready to start working on the expansion. |

| reply to doublec16 I'm hoping someone would design a smilie set that looks like a matched set, to offer as an alternative.. there are bazillions of smilies out there but I was hoping for a set that looks like it came from one designer.
for example, the current set above this post I am typing looks consistent except for icon #3 (the lightbulb), #10 (the happy face) and #11 (the bug eyed one).
the other thing to hope for a set of non-smilie forum icons for folders and so on that all looked like a matched set, so they can be picked as a folder theme.. |

I'm not sure what you mean by forum icons. Do you mean a group of icons specific for each forum or just one icon for each forum? |

Those are almost exactly the ones I found, except some of the ones I found are animated, which I think is cool. -- Use your computer to find ET or the cure.

Give me some ideas, and I'll try to make a matching DSLR Smiley set. I'll play around with it some more tonight. -- To do is to be - Aristotle -+- To be is to do - Socrates -+- DO BE DO BE DO - Sinatra -+- De do do do De do do da - The Police www.mospaw.com-- |

As much fun as the animated ones would be, we should probably stick with static images. This little community bangs the beegeebers out of the servers as it is. No need to help it along with animated gifs (hence the reason for non animated avatars). -- "Rome did not create a great empire by having meetings. I haven't played with creating animated gifs -or I'd do it myself -- perhaps you could make a "worried face" expression that then gets sucked into a blackhole.
Seems I could think of a lot of use for that.
(Alright, Wheelert posted just ahead of me; maybe one that's looks like it getting sucked away.) -- The truth speaks for itself; I am just a messenger. [text was edited by author 2001-02-15 12:47:43] |

I agree that animated avatars would hit a little hard
but the difference between a smilee, and an animated one
is about 100 bytes..

| reply to wheelert$93 Ummm have you taken a look at the little symbols beside your avatar lately? Animated smileys would take maybe 2 seconds longer on dialup than regular smileys. I should know, most of the time I've been on DSLR has been on dialup. |

| That's not the problem, try this. Get on dial up, post a page with about 50 little things in a row and try to scroll up and down. Most users will get a jumpy feeling as they do this, I'm not sure if it's the computer or the internet though. -- "Cooooowwwwww"-said the Moo |
