I had a problem getting the installer to come at the right times too; I know it's frustrating, but really, 45 minutes late isn't too bad... my local contractor told me he often works till 8pm or so, so hang in there.

If he doesn't show, try calling the Cogeco order office again and explain your situation. Ask for the local contractor's telephone number, so you can contact them yourself to arrange a time. If the operator won'/can't give you the number, ask that they reschedule and/or that they have the contractor call you, so you can confirm the time/date of installation.

Get it in writing. And get them to credit you for the amount of money you lost by taking an extra day off work. That is unacceptable.

Understood, but if I lose $100 or so for nothing, I am going to want some compensation.

You really expect someone to pay you for the money lost from work? LOL. Never in your life. The tech goes into situation he just does know what he is getting into. The tech that came for my install just came off a three hour install running cables in a house. He had no idea what he was in for when he arrived there. Them's the breaks in the tech world. I call sales late in the afternoon of my install and they knew the tech had called dispatch and he was on his way to my call. Good luck on the compensation.

your paying to have the tech come over?
:P if its a problem with your connection or something you shouldn't have to pay. Atleast I don't think so.Sometimes it depends on whats going on but most of the time you don't have to pay I think.

Unfortunately these things happen sometimes (and not just with cable companies) and there's a plethora of reasons ranging from having to spend too much time at another call (do you want the tech to leave your house before finishing the job?), having to pick up an extra piece of equipment, traffic, accidents, etc etc etc.

As for credit for time off work...I have nothing to do with billing but I highly doubt that will happen. I've had to wait for various utilities in my day and if work was a priority then I booked the call for a day when I wasn't working and if the service person didn't show up then I rebooked the appt for another day, it's frustrating and all but that's life. Might get a credit due to inconvenience or something but I don't recommend spouting off about compensation for lost time.

I feel for you but as one of Cogeco's Customer response techs in the field I can tell you that on certain days trying to meet the deadlines and give you, the customer, the quality of service you deserve can be a daunting task.

A technicians average daily work load is usually in the area of 15 to 20 calls. Add to this an unexpected outage or service problem and you can see how scheduling can sometimes get out of control. We try our best to be on time for all our calls but, occasionally, due to events that are beyond our control, we have to reschedule calls to the next day. I realize that all this is of little comfort to you after taking the day off work to be at home awaiting the techs arrival but maybe it can shed some light on how, despite all our efforts, these situations can occur.

Hehe.. one of the Tier1 guys I was talking to tried to convince me the intermittent connection I was getting was because someone was stealing my IP via Proxy Arping.. lol.. and when I asked him what my signal strength was he said it was find at 58dB.. hmm... I guess theres such a thing as knowing TOO much, but its pretty funny. Most of the techs there are pretty polite, and knowlegeable. I'm just glad I knew when to hang up.

At least its not a 40 minute hold for a voice nowadays- they've definitely fixed that, and I do appreciate it! I get someone within 5 minutes most of the time. I will be posting to b*tch on Wednesday if my tech is a noshow or tries to BS me though :P

Cogeco calls it Arp switching (not sure the official name), and it is possible. Very possible. And it does happen. And you will experience an intermittent connection because of it.

In your case, you had 58dbmv, which will be a problem most of the time, but arp switching is a legitimate problem.

Nope. But I wouldn't mind credit on the cable bill if I was paying for services not received and losing money for nothing.

Rogers Tech's let you choose a time between a 3 hour period... let's say 5-8pm, and then they always show up half an hour earlier =\

(At least in my area - heh )

Wow.. that is really weird- I figured because I can get 3 IPs, I just reset my modem and hooked directly into another PC to get an IP that wouldn't get taken.

If it was someone taking my IP and I was getting an intermittent connection, my modem wouldn't be going offline and then resynchonizing would it? From my experience with another Cable ISP, I could ping a person who was getting their IP stolen, and the TTL would change as the other person got the IP, and then when the first person renewed the DHCP lease it would reassign and the TTL would revert. The modem itself wouldn't go offline. Can you give me a link to this problem possibly? I did a Google on Proxy Arp, and I thought that was just the caching of the bootfile on the UBR.

Darn that Hamburgler! He's been on America's Most Wanted at least 3 times in the last 40 years! He's a terrorist I say!
