Sony takes the risk out of buying a DVD recorder by bringing all the popular formats into a single drive. The amazing DRU-500A burns DVD-R/-RW, DVD+RW/+R, and even CD-R/CD-RW discs. |

| isn't it ironic that a company that's also with the RIAA and hollywood ends up making a product like this.
Talk about conflict of interest
though I wonder if this one really works -- Zer0 Hour Productions |

| If you goto the sony page for the product, it has a little statement about burning responsible, by watching copyright laws and the sort.
This was probably enough for RIAA to be happy. [text was edited by author 2002-10-25 12:55:34] |

| reply to fire100_old Well I can say I want one and fully intend to buy one.
However, DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW are still proprietary formats. Look at it this way, if you bought a K56flex plus x2 only modem some time ago it still wouldnt be v.90 compliant in which case it wouldnt conform with the standard of today. BTW, I think most if not all such modems can be upgraded Im just saying,
what if they couldnt be for example.
That is to say, although it is possible that one of the existing formats will become the future standard, where is the evidence that a third format will not arise to become the final standard? |
