WMP11 Startup Issue

Hi guys --

For some reason, everytime I restart my computer, everything comes back up. Then, it says Local Area Connection 3 (the wmp) is disconnected. The Config utility then says that the WMP11 is *NOT* installed. The card has all green lights and hardware managment says that its' working properly.

Then after pulling my hair out and installing this, uninstalling that, upgrading this, upgrading that... it somehow works.

This happens EVERY TIME I restart.

Any ideas??

Hey, I have the exact same problem. I have a client that has two brand new gateways running windows 2000. Here is the really odd thing. These computers are on windows 2000 domain. The WMP11 is active when the computer logs into the network but then when the desktop loads the WMP11 then goes "UNINSTALLED". Same as Mikeinet I can play with the WMP11 and get it to work but it will go "UNINSTALLED" when I reboot (or at best every other time I reboot).

I see that the IRQ for the WMP11 is 21. I assume this is a virtual IRQ of some form????

when you say uninstall what do you mean exactly by that, does this mean that in device manager it is no longer listed or do you mean that it is no longer connected to the router, also what version of the card is it.

I think I can answer this. The system tray icon (a.k.a. linksys config tool) says the WMP11 is "not installed" on the main screen. If I check the device manager all looks ok. No yellow or red X on the WMP11.

mkrebs, correct me if I am wrong.

all the information is above.

And there is no internet connection.

I just (I think?) upgraded the firmware (didnt say anything just flashed something quickly) and so far all is well?

(though i've only restarted once and there hasnt been a problem)

Yes, it's 2000 domain server

I have the IDENTICAL problem with the WMP11 (using Windows 2000 on a older G6-333 Gateway). I have been working on it for 5 days and I can't tell you how many calls to tech support.

But, I've at least figured out what is happening and a work-around (albeit not a great long term solution). What I have found is that if I restart my machine with the Linksys install disk already in the CD drive, the card works fine. It will continue to work until the next re-boot. If you boot the machine without the CD in the drive it reacts exactly as you all described in your earlier notes.

I've described these exact details to Linksys - not only do they have no clue, most of their tech support staff can't even understand what is happening. One tech guru last evening told me that the solution was to move my PC closer to the access point (it is only 20 feet away now!).

I have tried loading all the files from the CD to my harddrive and then performing the install from there to no avail. The ONLY solution so far seems to be to leave the disk in the drive.

Happy Networking!

I almost fear asking this question but what firmware are you using? Is it the newest. I have not loaded the latest firmware yet, due to the computers are offsite and I would rather have an answer when I go to fix them. Thanks

BTW good catch on the CD in the drive. I saw this too but never put 2 & 2 together to realize that it was the CD in the drive that made it work. But, now that you say that, yes it only worked when I had the CD in the drive.

Not sure of the firmware version but Tech Support e-mailed me firmware which would not install. I called them with the erroe message I was receiving and they determined that they had sent the incorrect firmware. They then told me that there was not any new firmware available for the WMP11 Ver. 2.7.

I'm guessing we'll all need firmware soon to solve this issue.....

I was thinking it was a firmware upgrade that did the trick for me (to 2.7) but as I look in my cd drive, the driver cd is in there :/ Maybe it wasn't the firmware that fixed it. heh

I'm excited now......tech support has sent me an e-mail saying that I am being moved up to "2nd Level" support. Do you suppose anybody at that "level" can help? If I'm lucky maybe someone at this level will listen well enough to at least comprehend what is happening........

Maybe next time I should buy D-Link....or, NetGear.....or, maybe even Microsoft. I can't believe I said Microsoft.

I have asked "Linksys Tech5" to look into this issue. He has helped me before and he knows his stuff. (and a nice guy to boot.)

What FCC ID display on the WMP11 label?
Is it PKW-WMP11 or PKW-WMP11v27?

The one I have is PKW-WMP11v2.7 and it works fine on my XP system.

Linksys tech told me that the new WMP11v2.7 use Broadcom Radio Chip, which is different from the old WMP11 (Intersil base Radio). That is why the driver will not work when I tried to upgrade my driver using the latest driver utility that Linksys provided on their web site. It did not work. (Because its still WMP11 driver).

Linksys Tech5 has sent me and most of the other users in this thread a new set of MS approved WHQL certified drivers that do not seem to be on Linksys website yet.

I am not in a position where I can test these drivers (at the moment) but I am in conversations with the other users (rlmasse) via e-mail and the problem still seems to be there after even after using the new drivers.

I have an idea of a cheesy work-a-round that will free up the CD rom drive. Mount a NTFS Folder in Windows 2000 as a drive. »support.microsoft.com/default.as···;q314449 And copy the contents of the CD into the folder. I have not tested it, but it may work.

Oh, and tell me if it works.

Can you provide full path? I can't seem to find any new drivers for WMP11. Checked ftp site and via support page (had drivers link grayed out)
Thanks

Well, I'm back. I've been working with Tech Support on this issue. We have tried seemingly everything. Each day they would e-mail something else to try and that evening I would attempt it. The new drivers do not work any different than the old drivers (at least on my configuration). They even asked me to reload Windows, which I did, and after 2 painful hours of Windows loading - the card reacted the same.

When last I communicated with Tech Support they were trying to duplicate the problem and apparently couldn't. I haven't heard from them in several days now.

Has anyone else solved this yet?

@kscymo.swbell.ne

I have this problem in w2k and I have yet to find the concrete solution. PLEASE if someone knows the answer, post it here!
