Re: OOL FTP speed test is BULLSHIT

Okay , but you saw yourself that the speeds from OOL test aren't the same as the actual speeds since the AOL file you downloaded went twice as fast on your PC.

Every time you run, outside of OOL, you'll see different speeds.

Tracert for me to the AOL FTP server:
C:\>tracert ftp.aol.com

Tracing route to ftp.aol.com [64.12.168.246]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 10 ms 20 ms 11 ms my-cv-ubrs [10.93.192.1]
2 ping 64.12.128.46 -l 1400

Pinging 64.12.128.46 with 1400 bytes of data:

Reply from 64.12.128.46: bytes=1400 time=30ms TTL=241
Reply from 64.12.128.46: bytes=1400 time=21ms TTL=241
Reply from 64.12.128.46: bytes=1400 time=20ms TTL=241
Reply from 64.12.128.46: bytes=1400 time=20ms TTL=241

Ping statistics for 64.12.128.46:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 20ms, Maximum = 30ms, Average = 22ms

What do you show?

I have to wait until Quickie downloads the file and posts his speed, since his lives half a block away, plus his tracert of dslreports.com is the same as mine EXACTLY. I think when he says that he gets 8000kbps is only on the OOL FTP or JAVA. We'll see soon enough. It could be that my whole neighborhood doesn't get 8000kbps.

your question was answered within 4 posts, you have kept this thread going for 9 pages, and have been told by both cv customer service and people here that you don't have any problem with your connection... and you think im the one who has a problem? hah!

As i said before. Nobody is forcing you to answer or even look. You don't own BBR. I couldn't care less about what you have to say, so save your bandwith and don't post here.

Quik gets 443kb/sec on the AOL download.
I found out that me and Quik get speeds of 300 +MB/sec when download one file from a certain site, but when download 4 of the same files at a time speed goes up to 1.2MB/sec. Is there a way to tweak so one file can be downloaded at 1.2MB/sec

Go here ----> »usa.bmwfilms.com/clap.asp?templa···assreg=Y

download one of the movies. Tell me your speed (that's what we used)

1.2 is above the cap, you are not really downloading that fast

I have DU meter on , The speed was jumping between 1050 - 1170. Even if it wasn't that fast it was 1MB for sure.

I got 545 before I canned it. Was quick using a download accelerator? Or just 4 DL's of the same file?
-----------------------------

I really think that this has gone on for long enough, as Josh said. We (I) have tried everything that we know to up the speed outside of OOL Land. You are fine. get a grip and move on.

That is 8602 - 9585 in Speakeasy terms. What more do you want?

Actually it did work fine with Download Accelerator. I was just going to end this thread. Thanks a lot Irish Shark, GeekNJ, Quik, Jefe, and Defman.

Unless I calculated incorrectly, 1.2MB == 9830kb so it's not technically over the 10/1 cap. But that's need here nor there.

Enjoy the speed!

I can not believe this even went past the First page and was not squashed!!!! During my wonderful time on OOL I too did the tests.

OOL FTP test 1.02 MB / Sec (based on 1024 as in File size)

NYC.Speakeasy.net : 8111 kbps Down and 895 kbps up (based on rounded Transfer rate of 1000)

lets do some quick math

1.02 MB /sec translates into 8355.84 kbps by file size yet 8160 kbps in transfer rate (according to the powers that be who came up with the rounding measure). That is not bad when dealing with battle of FTP vs Java speed tests
Look~~> 8111 vs 8160

So quit barking up the wrong tree and try to understand the difference of

-MB/Sec vs Mbps
-KB/Sec vs Kbps

Or should I say HD File Size VS Network Transfer Rate

Microsoft site = 998 KB/Sec! screaming downloads period. I was even able to achieve a 700 KB/ Sec download from File Planet for the Americas Army Demo (now that is scary) Also if you use a line monitoring program like NetStat Live you can display the results in File size or Network transfer rate.
