Great! What tests did you run. What was the speed?
----------
Remember that DOS speed test that I posted for you? Run that one now and let's see what gets.

Some thing is not right with that tweak test. Use The Doctor and set it up like this. Save. Exit. Reboot. Retest with the OOL spead test.

ISn't this test inside the OOL network?

Speed is great. 8421 in Speakeasy terms.

Yes, it is the same test as the link except that it takes the browser out of the equation.

yeah, but what good is the OOL Test speed if the actual speeds for files that you need outside of OOL are slow.

Like, I said above, it shows that your speed inside of OOL Land is good. This says that any slowdown is outside of OOL Land, and there is not a thing you can do about it.

can OOL do something about it?

Not unless it is affecting all/most folks on OOL... like a router problem outside of OOL Land. Then they can try to reroute or contact the folks who have a slowdown problem and ask that they look into it.

Remember that OOL does not own the Internet, they only get you there. Once there, you are at the mercy of other folks.

Anyway, there is something wrong with that Tweak Test. Either rerun it or do as I suggested above in that picture of The Doctor.

Imagine an example, siikosane, where you're doing a p2p file transfer from someone who's feeding it to you through a 28.8 dialup modem. The fastest download you'll get is 28.8, because that's the fastest the uploader can feed the file to you.

How could OOL do anything about that?

edit: Here's a real world test you can do to see what you're capable of getting a real file from a real server. Go to »www.corel.com/support/ftpsite/pu···ndex.htm, scroll down to the Portugese (Brazil) SP1 file...WP9SP1_BR.exe. Download that, or at least start the download, from the main server.

Corel maintains a big pipe to serve those patches. I get 1.03 MB/s downloading that file. It shows what OOL is capable of given an adequate feed from the rest of the Net.

You are trying to say that my download speeds are slower than those around me because the uploaders are slow everywhere. I asked several people with OOL to download the same file from the same site within half an hour and all of them got 400kb faster than me. Explain this! Its probably a router somewhere outside of OOL land as Irish Shark said.

Can you please just hold on for a minute?
--------------
There is something wrong with that Tweak Test. I don't know if it is problem or not.

Go backup a few posts and please do as I suggested.

Yep. That looks pretty sad for this time of day.

edit: Do as Irish Shark suggested. Post a screen grab of DrTCP so we can see what your settings are.

Shark....

Don't know what to make of that. I got 1.03 MB a few minutes ago when I grabbed that file. Now it's a little lower but still a lot better than you or siik are seeing. I wonder if the reason could be as simple as a bunch of people downloading that file at the same time as a result of my post.

Siikosane...

You're settings look ok to me. I guess something else must be going on there.

You know how Verizon DSL uses QWEST as GLOBAL SERVICE PROVIDER with their OC- Something connection. Does OOL do the same thing. There has to be something wrong their than.
