 | Transform WAP11 v2.2 into a DWL900ap+ fw Folks from »www.wirelessleiden.nl claim they can use a firmware update to transform a linksys wap11 2.2 into a dwl900ap+ thus enabling you to flash the box with the latest dlink firmware... (no more checksum errors!).. My Dutch isn't very good (one can easily figure out the readme file) but the procedure looks simple.. assuming nothing gets cooked in the process. I still think there might be hope for linksys to come out with respectable firmware.. I have NOT tested this, Readme does not seem to document a way to revert back. If this does work, however, this would prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that the WAP11 2.2 and the DWL-900ap+ are completely identical. A proof which I personaly don't need... Oh and, of course, repeater mode... If it actually works
Excuse the verbosity of this comment. Links:

Hack is here(also looks like a copy of 1.01f if anyone cares): »194.109.4.7/~frank/Linksys/ |

 | Works like a charm! My WAP11 2.2 is now a D-Link DWL-900AP+ running D-Link firmware 2.3
The Linksys firmware is pathetic and full of bugs! |
|
 | reply to saruman8 that is pretty neat that you can do that but I hope you plan on calling dlink now if you need tech support because that does void the warranty on the access point and all support for the product. |
|
 | Yes, True you can no longer call linksys for support but without the buggy linksys firmware you wont need tech support anyway!
Keep running buggy firmware so you can have tech support or use trouble free firmware and not have tech support, hmm that's a real tough decision.. rofl.. |
|
 | reply to saruman8 so true but what happens if the access point goes bad for some reason and it is still covered by warrant I guess you will just have to go buy another access point, I mean do you expect it to last forever. |

Security Tool for 22M wireless AccessPoints Maybe you have noticed the discussion about vulnerable firmware in most 22MBit AccessPoints (DLink, Linksys, Wisecom, ...) Check out »mobileaccess.de/wlan/?go=technik - you can download a small programm which lets you read the configuration details, such as password, WEP-keys, MAC-addresses and more - without having admin access even without knowing the IP of the AccessPoint! |

Re: Transform WAP11 v2.2 into a DWL900ap+ fw Are recent security holes fixed in this D-Link firmware 2.3? Any differences in Web interface from Linksys? |

If the said security holes is a reference to the tftp server on the wap 2.2/dlink/... that lets anyone read and change all the config including cleartext password.. It is not fixed - the `wizard` tools use it to reconfig the device - this probably means they will take their time... yuck... That said, I think there`s more chance Dlink will fix it first. |

Variant 1 format: Type : GL2422AP-00-0M0 T1.0 -042.3 Announced Name : ☻ Admin Username : Admin Password : ----- but with -r it does rip the login and pass out... very interesting considering that dlink said they were going to "encrypt" the files, this program is just dumping the file, I dunno how yet, and won't till I have free time. --------------------------- EDIT sorry I didn't read all of the above post close enough... see my post in the dlink forum for the same info as above [text was edited by author 2002-11-15 20:33:18] |

 | reply to mickey_mouse_ar The link doesn't seem to work. Anyone have another?
Pretty new to the whole wireless thing, what benefit is there in doing this dlink FW switch?
Would my WAP11 work with my wireless card any better or some other benefit?

| reply to alevik I can't see the page you specified (www.beverwijk-wireless.com/forum/phpBB...). Do you have another link? Or, better, can you send me the instructions via email? [text was edited by author 2002-11-18 05:10:57] |

 | reply to saruman8 Flashed the new D-Link 2.5 BIOS today, works fine on default IP 192.168.0.50, but by HTTP admin only, the dlink setup prog 2.5 seems not to work ... Anyway the thing works, even if i don't know yet the usage of some functions: - Repeater mode - Radius server (howto ?) |
