wpcreditmore than a few questions lately about wpcredit... so i put together a "quickie guide" ...it's no substitute for research, and a little knowledge is DANGEROUS... so get searching the web and researching and reading... wpcredit...thank you mr. o-hoda' nb chipset tweaking utility
nice, nice... google search and read, read, read... kat give you the bare-bones if that... kt266a.pcr file will work for kt333... 11063099.pcr 1. d/l and install wpcredit from o-hoda's home page -> » hp.vector.co.jp/authors/ ··· oad.html2. copy kt266a.pcr file and move into wpcredit folder. File name is 11063099.pcr (attached as zip, thank you dslr). 3. open wpcredit 4. > file > pcr open > double-click 11063099.pcr to load 5. find the 32 box in the upper middle of the screen this enables 32-bit mode editing... 6. check the guide for how-to edit the chipset registers (offsets) 7. wpcredit changes will not be saved, you will need wpcrset for that - but be careful...some changes will lock you up... test all changes first by minimizing the wpcredit window - while it's open the changes are in effect - and run sandra benchmarks to see the impact of the change&... common wpcredit tweaks for kt266a, kt333, and kt400 register 6A = FF for memory bandwidth register BO = 07 for 3dmark stability at high fsb register 93 = FF works for some, not for others register 97 = 73 works for some, not for others register 69 = allows to force synchronous memory/cpu timing ...pcr and guide to follow |

All good stuffs, but I like 8 bit mode instead of 32 bit.
Also, like kat sez, read, read, read. Get the chipset datasheet (if you can) and read it - find out what each acronym in the datasheet means - study some low-level programming languages so that you understand what changing one parameter can do to other parameters (side effects!) - some side effects are good, others are very bad.
Learn how to use wpcrset, but use it *only* on tweaks that are proven to be stable under wpcredit. |

Does this program work for non-VIA chipsets, though? I was suggested this just recently, because one of the things that it can do is setup a tweak that would allow the CPU to cool off a bit when it's not being used very much (which I could use now since my temps are really high w/ my AGOIA 2100+ ). if it does, I would be more than interested to try it out |

WPCREDIT== Windows Program Control Registers EDIT. Lets you change the BIOS/CMOS chipset registers when your BIOS does not allow it, and thereby lets you tweak the Chipset (mostly northbridge but southbridge can often be tweaked as well) for optimum performance. WPCREDIT can be used with most motherboards but it's a guessing game if you don't have a PCR definition file for your chipset - this defines the register names and their available tweak values. With a chipset datasheet, you can create the PCR definition file. I did so for the ECS K7S5A, which was then released to the public |

Just out of curiosity and an urge to learn, where could one find a few chipset datasheets(most specificially the kt333 and kt400. Have a few Gigacrap boards at work that have the urge to go fast ) |

Where could I find a chipset datasheet as you mentioned it, then? |

Chipset datasheets tend to be hard to find. The chipset vendors tend to think that only motherboard manufacturers need one. For instance, SiS had their 735 chipset datasheet under a non-disclosure/no release situation but one was "leaked" to me by an anonymous source several months after I began my search for one, posting at different forums about the lack and its need in overclocking efforts.
Try google searches, like "kt133 datasheet" or similar, post your need(s) on forums, ask the board manufacturer for a copy, etc.
I still don't have a kt266/a datasheet, wish I did... |

You don't need the pcr for a motherboard, u need it for a chipset. what nb does the k7s5a have? |

johnnybe - ygpm wallyghs - the k7s5a uses the SiS 735 chipset. The forum where a link to the SiS735 PCR can be found, » pub65.ezboard.com/bk7s5a ··· ardforum , is unresponsive to me tonight, so I can't provide a link at this time... |

Here's a question on the details of wpcredit use.
Say I am multi-booting with a couple of OSs like Win98se and WinXP, just for example.
•The WPCREDIT settings are below the OS-level and, once set, do not have to be reset for each active OS/partition? Er, right?
Thanks, Ugly |

Easiest way to explain.It changes the chipset programming.OS doesn't matter,only chipset. |

Ugly - WPCREDIT changes don't last beyond a reboot, that's why H. Oda created WPCRSET. And, WPCRSET needs to be setup to work (it's kinda like a device driver) at boot for each O/S you boot. Nothing like WPCRSET/WPCREDIT for Linux, AFAIK |

Go to the section called "register description"... then find the setting you want to address, and experiment with the values for that register.... |
