From 700k average to 80k average

Adelphia usually tests at 700-1200k+ for me. The service seems to go down about twice a week, so I keep a dial-up account as backup. But when its actually working, it is usually lightning quick.

Last three days it has tested at more around 90-110k. I talked to a tech and instead of telling me if they are having any problems he said "well, all we guarantee is 80k". Hmmmm, maybe so - but the extra $ and hassle just for 1/3 more speed than dial-up would certainly not be worth it.

In any case, I read here others posting that there is a problem in Dallas. I'm up in Vermont, but could there be a relation? The Powerlink report site just lists there being a problem with speed of accessing Adelphia based websites - which is clearly not the case.

Is this radical speed drop just over the last couple of days happening to everybody on Adelphia?

Yes the problem in Dallas can & most likely affecting you.

This a random problem.

If you path to a website goes through Dallas/Ft. Worth, you will be affected.

If you do some traceroutes (tracert) & your path goes through anything with ftwttx, then that is Dallas.

ie: 5 380 ms 357 ms 353 ms pos4-0.ftwttx-rdra-12012.network.adelphia.net [64.8.29.29]

One word...horrible! We live in Brattleboro as well, and have to call Powerlink AT LEAST twice a week for a multiple of reasons. Our problems have included viruses on their servers damaging customer emails, can't send mail having more than 5 words in it, no service at all, and slow connectivity. Our problem (at this time) is SLOW internet. It's been 3 days now. We spoke with one of their "2nd level" support tech's and after 1/2 hour on the phone, they said they would have to send someone out. It's not a problem at our location yet they always tell us they have to send someone out but they never end up coming. It miraculously works on its own??

We've had the service for a year now. If we had another choice of broadband we would switch immediately. When we call their "tech support" normally the people who answer the phone really could care less. We're not talking about $10 a month here, we pay a lot of money and someone somewhere should start caring soon.

Yep - I'm with you Denimark, I'm out towards Marlboro a bit and Dsl isn't available here so Adelphia is my only option for broadband. I'm a computer consultant and have to download large files often for customers, and so going back to 56k would be a true hassle for me. But as far as broadband goes, its been enough of a nightmare. I keep a Sovernet account now as a backup, and give that email address to all customers since I would not be suprised to wake up any morning and find Adelphia just gone for good. Of course the leaders of a company being led away in handcuffs on national TV is never a good sign!

At other customers locations I've had a fair amount of contact with their field guys, because my rule with them now is that none of my customers lets one of their techs touch a computer without me there - because they trashed a customers business server awhile back. Nothing against their field guys, its not their fault - most of them are clearly cable guys, not computer guys.

But I certainly hope we get other options for broadband here in Vermont at some point, I'm sick of being held hostage by these guys.

From Denimark:
"Our problems have included viruses on their servers damaging customer emails"

I don't believe a Virus that runs within the Microsoft Operating system could originate from a Server that runs Unix. It is HIGHLY unlikely the virus originated with Adelphia.

Try posting a line quality test and a tweak test from here:

There may not be anything that can be done on your end, but with that info we can at least point you in the right direction.

Can you post a traceroute to yahoo.com? It could still be something on your end, but a trace to yahoo should help rule that out.

Wow, I am speechless. I finally have people posting from my area with the same problems as I.

Turns out Axess68 is not a whiny, complaining troll after all, huh?

I am a consultant/pc tech as well. None of my clients have ANY field tech from Adelphia there without me being there too. They insist on it. One online service actually INSISTED they back up their information before the Adelphia field tech touches the machine. Apparently, this has happened to a lot of people. The company needs some major emergency reconstruction and tech managers with spines.

Good to meet you - we are definately in the same boat, and somebody else here said they are from Brattleboro. So while I don't wish this crud on anybody, it makes me feel a little less isolated to talk to fellow sufferers!

I certainly don't blame all the individual techs and field guys, they are just folks trying to make a living like the rest of us. But corruption flows downhill and they are trying to work within the structure of a company that was very corrupt as we are finding so many to be these days. So even with the best intentions, most Adelphia employees are working within a system that does not set them up for success. I just hope that somebody buys out their ISP section of the company for dirt cheap, so that they can then put resources into getting it up to par!

You guys have no idea how relieved I am to know that it is not just me, that the Brat Apelphia is having serious problems. Do you guys also see a stoppage in service just about everynight between 10:30 and 1am? It always seems to die on me somewhere in between those times. Then I un-plug my modem and it takes 45mins sometimes to come back on.

Hey Todd!

I have a friend and a couple clients in Winchester. Their modems turn off on a regular basis. One friend had a tech from Adelphia come to his house to install a second cable line to the house. All the guy did was put splitters on where there was already a splitter.
My house has 2 independent cable connections. Sometimes, my kitchen PC goes out and sometimes my main one in the master bedroom. Usually, though, when the network goes down, they both go out. I hope they get this fixed soon, I am downloading stuff at dial-up speed tonight and it's VERY depressing.

You have a kitchen PC? You are as geeky as I am! I've run Cat5 all over the house, even out to the gazebo by the pond so I can be on the network with a laptop in the summer (of course the new wireless options may make that moot). It is cool to be able to stream a movie or music to any PC in the house.

Anyways, I digress. I'm really suprised to hear that your kitchen PC and your bedroom PC lose Adelphia at different times. You are running two completely seperate modems, but off of a cable that has just been split? Same brand/model of modem? Your IP address come up different on each computer/modem? Do you have to pay for two accounts?

that is weird with the doulbe modems, but again re-assuring that Adelphia kinda sucks, By the way I ran 100 ft of Cat5 to my garage, so I can now ask questions on the Jeep BBS's when I have questions! fun stuff.

I'm gonna go wireless and run a router eliminating one of the modems eventually. Or, at least, thats the plan. With the way Adelphia has been running lately, I wonder if I should. I wouldn't want the whole house to lose the net if the signal strength drops.
