| Official Britsys Update
We have had our final update from our lawyers and NewEdge's laywer.
An agreement could not be reached and so BritSys will no longer be working with NewEdge effective immediately.
All NewEdge/Britsys customers will be emailed a letter of release to migrate to another NewEdge partner ISP.
We will not be shutting off our network until all customers have found a new home.
We have a list of three providers we recommend who can give you service other than going with NewEdge directly.
For customers in the Great Lakes area please contact Quantum Connections »www.qtm.net
For customers in Wyoming and Montana please contact Visionary »home.vcn.com/
For customers in California please contact TFBnet »home.tfb.com/pages/newedge.htm
Customers outside of California can still contact TFBnet but there may be additional fees involved.
Other ISP's can be found here: »www.newedgenetworks.com/_apps/gettheedge/
You will need your OMS number in order to migrate. We will be emailing the three above providers with a blanket letter of release from BritSys to their service to ease the transition.
This only affects our NewEdge service; it does not affect any other ILEC and CLEC's we work with nor will it affect our network infrastructure, email, DNS, websites etc...
BritSys techs will assist NewEdge and other ISP's with their migration to another partner.
Please do not call if you have access to email. We are expecting many support calls this week so it is best to email support with any questions you have or for information you need to migrate. Our email address is Support@britsys.com
Thanks to all of you who have been great customers over the last couple of years and we wish you the best with your new provider.

| Doug & Folks,
We appreciate the endorsement and will work hard to make sure that your customer base receives the care, attention and quality service they had with your company.
BritSys Customers,
Our rates are cheaper than TransEdge, no matter where you are. If you've followed the recent threads over the past few days, you'll see that east coaster gamers probably wont like us because ping times might be higher than with someone else. For all other customers that are interested in a robust, resilient and fast connection at a value price, give us a jingle!

| reply to tfbnet Man this really sucks. I was perfectly fine with my service and never had any issues with being down etc. It looks like where I am at that Quantum might be my only option but I have never heard from them and they have zero user reviews. Hell you can't even get pricing on their service on the web page. Looks like 786/384 for under $70 is gone.
I might be forced to go with AT&T cable. Which might not be so bad but I really liked my DSL. |

I couldn't tell you, if those are real numbers. Looking at the published pricing for TransEdge, $109/month is the price for their 384K package. Their lowest package at 768K is listed at $159.95/month.
We're charging a fair price for the service that we provide. The $25 is a piece of the price NEN charges us to do the migration. If it's a deal breaker for you, I'd be willing to eat the fee on a 768K circuit.
Regards,

Are you sure TransEdge quoted you $109/month for 768K SDSL? |

The 768 prices I saw were $160-$235
I don't see ANY Transedge products that are $109. Check their price grid....

dallash Premium join:2001-08-17 Little Rock, AR clubs: | reply to britsys By the way.... $129 is a kickin' price for a 768k.
We are a New Edge provider, and we charge $199 for 768k (with free web hosting and 25 email accounts).
If you really need the bandwidth, $129 is a steal.

| Well, TransEdge has sent me three documents each with different figures. The sales rep assures me by email (though I won't sign until I see it in writing on a current, complete contract) that the prices in this Word document are what I will be charged. The only contract I've seen with current dates from TransEdge shows $159/month for 768k and a whopping $529 installation fee.
Sigh. I had 1.5MB ADSL in Chicago for $49.95 / month. In Iowa City, where the cost of living is supposedly lower, 1MB ADSL runs $180+ and now the cheapest 768k SDSL has gone from $87.50 (BritSys) to $129. |

| reply to tfbnet p.s. the $25 one-time migration fee isn't the deal breaker, it's the $240/year, every year, that would make me go with a cheaper provider.
/me wishes that Internet access were like electric and gas - always on, always there, standard pricing... |

| reply to britsys Maybe the $87.50 price is why they can't continue to offer service anymore.
The only way I could charge that little for 768k would be if my upstream bandwidth were free, or YOU could guarantee me that you wouldn't ever USE your connection....
As it is, with most ISP's paying $600 to $1000 per meg for the backbone transit, $87.50 for an SDSL 768 is just ridiculous.
I guess an ISP could oversell the hell out of their upstream bandwidth, but it would suck to be a customer of THAT ISP.

| Well, they did cap the upstream at 384, so it wasn't true SDSL - it was ADSL using SDSL hardware. Since I'm just looking for fast residential use, my friends and family can live with slow serving off my home web server. However, nobody else seems to offer anything like the BritSys 768/384 SDSL plan. |

The problem is that the service plan is no longer offered by New Edge Networks. The service was a stop-gap until they were able to offer Line Share ADSL, then the market went in the crapper and they weren't able to deploy everywhere.... |

Interesting. Well, that explains some of the pricing differentials I've seen then. There was a new schedule of pricing for people that signed a new agreement, the only downside was we couldn't offer that old type of service.
Apparently BritSys didn't sign it.
Interesting. Sorry we don't have a fit for you! If your budget ever changes or your needs warrant the expense, give us a holler! |

Oh, you fit. I'm moaning and groaning about the extra expense, but we can't live without our broadband access. If our choice is a $25 migration fee and $120 per month for 768k SDSL, or waiting 6+ weeks for a $110 per month 640k ADSL installation, it's an easy decision. I've already sent our request for a contract/agreement to your sales rep. |
