| reply to broadbandit Call Cablevision and ask them about their system. They might not tell you though.
You can always try to start the call like this. "Hello, this is Charles Dolan."

@optonline.net | reply to Jmartz I don't think anyone would run satellite service via a Windows computer... |

| reply to JoshNJ said by JoshNJ : the video for the ads is just black while the sound is playing, best part is the one just on was where the guy is talking about how the satellite picture would go out...hehehe
So, from that, I gather they are relying on the computer to cycle through the ads and play them...
Gosh, if they can't compress and play an ad in a tiny little window without having it freeze up... god only knows how bad their satellite service is going to be. -- [BetaNews | phpBB |MSN TerraServer |Space Imaging] |

| reply to broadbandit It's probably Win2k Advanced Server with load balancing. Too bad it didn't hang in there for long.. What, about 3 weeks or so when they made the change? I noticed the picture box on that upper right corner faded out about a week ago. I guess nobody decided to check for updated runtime drivers on the Server box. All they did was probably recycled (rebooted) the pc.
Who knows..
But I agree with those who said 2000 or XP. I highly doubt XP though. -- There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary and those who don't. |

said by Bichon : My guess is NT4. Command prompt instead of DOS, and old fashioned X.
I'm going to guess that it would be Windows 2000.
Windows NT 4 is no longer supported by Microsoft, so why would they use that? Especially if they just upgraded.
Also, I don't believe NT4 would let you have that faded title bar. -- [BetaNews | phpBB |MSN TerraServer |Space Imaging] |

Its 2000 or XP....
The command prompt window icon in the left corner is the giveaway...
9x machines show the MS-DOS logo there...

It is most definitely a Windows 9x dialog box... The nifty little x in the top right corner is the give-a-way...

| reply to broadbandit is this the real tv guide channel? or the CV one..
if it's the real tv guide channel blame them.... they are always futzing with the code and screwing things up...
BTW the machine that runs the tv guide channel(at least mine) is a dual processor(P3) compaq 4U rackmount PC running NT4, it has a buttload of ram and either 3 or 5 SCSI drives.... i don't remember, i haven't had to open it since they screwed it up in the last code update. -- disclaimer: my opinions are my own, my employer is not responsible. |
