OT: Theft of Service?

Having just stuck a screwdriver in my eye from the thread on whether or not routers were permitted or not, I figured I'd stir the pot up a bit and get some opinions on this..
------

Now... I wonder.... I have iO hooked up... The box has both a Coax output to Channel 3 and an S-Video output... I have the S-Video going to my primary TV in the living room... And the coax output -- yup -- you guessed it, going right into the bedroom TV... I use an IR repeater so that the iO box in the living room responds to the remote from the bedroom.. I have the iO remote in the bedroom, and my Pronto remote is fully prgrammed for iO in the Living Room..

So lets see... I have iO service on multiple sets.. Keep in mind, whatever is being tuned is being shown on both sets simultaneously.. I only pay for one iO box, and programming for iO on one TV set.. Is this theft of service? Curious to see what some of the responses will be..

Rick

No. You have one iO terminal that is displayed on 2 monitors. You are short of the functionality of iO service on multiple sets. I'd liken this to having satellite without multiple set service.

NO, I would not think it is theft of service if it is within your house. It is like recording a program with a VCR and showing it in another room.

They charge $3.02 per iO box and an additional fee of $2.50 per household for iO programming on any additional outlets. There is no charge for an additional outlet without a cable box or premium service.

I'd have to agree..it's just mirroring you truly don't have the functionality that you'd get if you had 2 boxes it doesn't seem anymore different then moving the tv room to room

I am curious what that $2.50 fee is really for. That is, does CV really have an expense with additional iO boxes or is it a revenue enhancement?

pcm, that is not an iO fee, that is standard whenever you have a premium channel on more than 1 tv (hbo,showtime,etc...) on analog as well...

Look at the rate card - "Premium programming on additional analog outlets - no charge"

I've never had an "additional charge" for HBO/Starz/Encore/IFC/Cinemax on my bill for the extra TV's in my house.

It's not stealing. Take it this way, say you have dual monitor support, and you have a tv tuner card. If you plug it and start viewing tv across both monitors, it's not stealing. You're paying for one box and basically utilizing it to the max.

either a misprint or they are changing that... at least up until now the premium fee has been charged on analog

I just went over my October bill. No premium fee for additional outlets, and they are quite aware there are multiple TV's in the house, as there is the charge for the 2 analog boxes, and the IO install order showed that there were additional outlets on the account as well.

The bill has been the same for quite some time as well. The last time I had any additional outlet charge was 10 years ago, before the 1992 cable act

Well in Yonkers there has been a charge for additional premium channels.

None of us know any details of their contracts with the premium networks, so any answer is probably a guess, but it could depend on whether they pay by box or by house etc. It could be either. It may be a way to charge people based on the extra service they are getting, or just added revenue. I really don't know.

That rate card does happen to be from a scan of something sent to Oakland subscribers (where I am)

I'm convinced its a revenue enhancement then.

I did cheat and copy that from the forum, I should have mentioned that. It is possible that the rates are part of the Contract negotiated with the Town. Also there was "The Cable Television Consumer Protection and Competition Act of 1992" I haven't read it fully but it controlled prices before it was repealed and may have controlled how much they could charge additional premium programming.
