That's a separate issue. This issue gives official approving sanction to the practice of connecting multiple computers to a single connection via either software internet connection sharing or through a router.
Since such a connection can only utilize the input from a single input line, then the speed available is going to be divided roughly between all the computers maintaining a connection to the internet at a given time. Let's say that you are getting a true 2000kbps downstream speed, but have 4 people on line all downloading the latest Windows XP updates from Microsoft: the best each could hope for would be around 500kbps (4 * 500 = 2000).
A big to-do has been made over one or two persons who participate in the Cox forum receiving warning notices for excessive bandwidth use. That's between 1/2 and 1 percent of the total population of that forum - I don't see that as a significant number at this point in time. Our poll shows that 188 (just over 1/2) of the 375 participants consider themselves on-line gamers. I think we can safely assume that the 200 members visiting the forum are included in those 375 -- and we don't see 188 people complaining because of having encountered the bandwidth use cap yet.
I don't think gaming is going to be the plug-puller, I think it is going to be the continued use of P2P such as the defunct Napster and current apps such as Kaaza. I do wonder how the future of such endeavors as Movie rental over the internet will affect it -- but judging by reports of the quality of that at this point in time, not anything to worry about just yet: people are not going to pay to rent poor quality movies for 24 hours while they can get a better deal using Pay-Per-View and a VCR.

I can't see how they could not support networking and I'm surprised it took this long to do so. Pretty hard to regulate a shared connection via router except through a cap......(I know), so they might as well support it.
They did manage to find a way to make a nickle though with the support contract.
I sure don't envy the phone techs on that one, Lol. |

Re-read the article. Cox is installing home networks, not supporting them if they didn't install them. It's not avail in all areas. I seem to get the idea that you guys think Cox now supports all home networks. I apologise if I misread.  |
