 | I am on the regular plan myself and do run file sharing while I sleep a lot of the time (that way I'm not hurting everyone else's connection), but give us some credit, we are smart enough to turn them off when doing a speed test , although I can only say that for myself of course. -- "The Stars win the Stanley Cup, The Stars win the Stanley Cup" Ralph Strangis!! |

 | reply to wheelzoff at&t has no gurantee for uploads so if you did call tech support it would be to no avail.. |
|
 | No, they don't gurantee speeds, but I can still complain. If my uploads were at 200 then complaining is pointless, but they are in the 40's, and getting bad much earlier now, not just past 8pm.

Sorry for my late response... No, I'm not running anything else while I'm testing my speed. That would defeat the purpose of the speed-test. |

At 10:30am CST, which is definately not peak time on a Monday. This is horrible. Isn't there a regulation _requiring_ them to provide at least 128kbit for it to qualify as broadband (in the upstream)? This has been going on for a while. |
|
DoubleTPremium join:2002-04-09 Dallas, TX | The state of Washington requires broadband to be above 200kb/s. I think they're the reason we all went up to 256.
But as far as I know, they're the only state that has that requirement.
Like it has been stated, AT&T doesn't guarantee speeds. If you were having packet loss or latency issues, then you could gripe.
Well, I guess you could gripe or maybe do an online chat session and just see what they say.
Also, take the speed test results with a grain of salt. According to the speed tests, I rarely approach my max upload. But in real world observation, I know that I am getting at or above what I'm supposed to be getting. -- Fear the hippo... |
|
 | I use the speed tests to post here, but I often upload things to my attbi webspace at a whopping 4k/sec lol, that was how I noticed the slowdowns. Weird thing is I was using emule yesterday afternoon, and I had 6 uploads going at a total of 29k/sec, closed emule did a speed test and gave me a horrible upload. Then I uploaded a file to my webspace and it was going very slow as well. So it's almost like they do something to limit upload speeds in some way during busy times? Like you can only use so much speed per connection or something like that, I have no idea, just a thought. -- "The Stars win the Stanley Cup, The Stars win the Stanley Cup" Ralph Strangis!! |

lagger join:2002-10-26 Allen, TX | reply to wheelzoff With speed tests, always take the highest result, due to possible line congestion at dif sites. Find a good one and stick with it. It states that on the test page. And as far as complaining...I doubt youd get any help unless your problems stem from lack of system maintenance, for example: cleaning cache, temp files, cycling modem, swap files..etc. Im in Allen Tx and have been getting reasonable speed test results most of the time, (1400's-180's but online gaming suks. I actually got a test result of 1400's -negative 600. Can you even get a negative result? After 11 different calls to tech support, they admited a router issue an thier end. See tracert below:

The first level tech support will help you with the maintenance issues. If prob persists, they transfer you to second level support who can determine line issues. If they cant figure out the problem they forward the issue to network enginering. The second level tech support will not allow customers to talk to the upper level network techs who reall know whats going on. Ive been waiting over two weeks to hear from them. Im beginning to believe there are major problems with AT&T, due to over selling. And they are blowing smoke right up our asses. |
