Well, to be entirely honest, I haven't used the version I posted but only used the prior version on a few occasions. I normally don't have a proble with pop ups and pop unders, but on the few occasions that I think I might, I have taken to using the popup stopper incorporated in another program that I do use, and with that one, HitsoryKill, »www.historykill.com, I do have to remember to use the CTRL key if I want to see the the popup. PopKi, the prior version, was just really a nice little program though, so I would imagine that this newer version is even more so, and you are right. It is all in what one gets used to.

If you use the toolbar in panicware popup stopper companion it's fairly easy to enable javascript in sites where you want that....
Myself, I have javascript so disabled in the internet zone anyway, I have to add a site also to my trusted zone as well, but never have any problem here if I choose to allow popups...

Home use free version.
Personally, I have the blocker free from Earthlink, no big deal to hit CTL on some of the Java screens, it's probably only 1 out of 30 that it stops. I can live with that, thank you EarthLink for providing it free to your customers.

JKK, I just downloaded PopKi to try it. First time I hear of it. (Haven't been looking for popup killers for a long time.)
It's nice and has an easy/friendly interface, but it doesn't really solve the ctrl key motion problem either. Instead of holding down the ctrl key, one has to click with the mouse to "allow one" (or however many). The motion is still there.
I guess it depends on people's habits and preferences, whether one likes keyboard shortcuts or using the mouse.
I haven't compared Panicware and PopKi to see which one uses less resources.

I've been using popup stopper for quiet a while, and once I picked up the habit of holding ctrl key to open up another window it's become second nature. I have all java options disabled in my Internet Zone under security tab in IE anyway.
I knew about holding ctrl key from their FAQ, so it should still be in there. A Javascript window is a window, so I applied the same logic. But you're right that they should be more specific.

I have just updated from Panicware 2.8 to 2.92. The same caveat about JavaScript applies, and Panicware still doesn't mention that on their help or FAQ page, which they should do.

Welcome aboard and thanks for the nice post and your recommendation. If you're ever thinking about another pop-up stopper and one without the hassle of having to do the CTR button bit, PopKi is a really nice one, »216.239.53.100/search?q=cache:wK···ie=UTF-8, that you might be interested in at some time in the future.

| I first saw that application recommended on another board about 2 months ago. I learned, the hard way, that it can seriously interfere with JavaScript, and prevent JavaScript windows from opening. I did 2 complete restores (non-destructive) on my computer, and for a while suspected Norton Anti-Virus of interfering with my JavaScript. Finally, I tried a "clean boot" in Windows XP, with Panicware turned off, and JavaScript worked.
When Panicware's pop-up menu, accessible by right clicking its icon in the system tray beside the clock, has the option "Do not allow browser pop-up windows" checked, the icon will be white with a blue border and a red X in the middle (The icon goes gray when that option is disabled). It doesn't matter whether or not the "aggressive" mode is enabled.
Panicware replied to me last night: If the pop-up window you want to open is one that invokes JavaScript, hold down CTRL while you click the hyperlink, and the JavaScript will work. If you hold down SHIFT while clicking, it won't work; you'll get a message saying the page cannot be displayed. I'm trying to get into the habit of always holding down CTRL instead of SHIFT when I want to open a pop-up window, just in case there's JavaScript. Your browser status bar will indicate the presence of JavaScript.
I downloaded Panicware from their site, »www.panicware.com to squelch those annoying pop-up ads. At one particular site, where I first saw Panicware recommended, those ads multiply like rabbits! Panicware does an admirable job of squelching those ads. With the aforementioned caveat about JavaScript, I can recommend it to anyone who's fed up with pop-ups.
Panicware's on-line help page does not specifically say anything about JavaScript; I suggested that they update it.
