my two cents

Long Live Open Source,

I dont think they should have a problem with this because this is basically what cable companies do already....They are just shooting you bandwidth over the cable and you are sending it over the air with wi-fi. Where some of the companies are having the problem is the have some hot spots sucking Mucho bandwidth and taking away from others. Satelite providers have a Fair use limit where they cut you back when you hit a certain amount in a time period. I had this happen to me a few times and it sucks! I hope that doesnt catch on with some of the other providers. For the most part I dont think this movement, while a good idea, will make it to be much more than surfing a little over dailup speed because of what will be pending limitations by ISPs and hardware limitations of some of the routers.

The other major problem will be the one bad apple syndrone.......Which will basically be one moron start pumping spam through the host, which will look like its coming from the poor guy that is giving service to everyone. Thus he will most likely get disconnected for spamming because even though it come from the network it will be marked with his IP which the owner is responsible.

Just a few thoughts on the subject.....I wish we lived in the perfect world where this would work but we DO NOT.

Or maybe something far worse then spam. My access point isn't always on, but for a long time, when it was on, I left it open. That is, until I read a news thing about the FBI(?) tracing some bas***d's IP and busting him for kiddy porn. Started me thinking that if some slimeball in my area was using MY connection for that type of activity, guess where the trace would lead? WiFi at my house is now locked down.
