Newport News, VA | Why did you get Broadband Originally, it was subscribed to at my place for gaming.
Over time that's become somewhat less of a priority. I dabble in graphics, and file transfers are an important part of my reasons for having broadband, usually via email.
The natural transition from still graphics to animated gifs to some type of video presentation is obvious. Pov-Ray renderings in any appreciable resolution, can be hefty.
So how about speaking up here and telling Cox why you subscribed to their service in the first place. Your number one reason. |

| I got it for online gaming. COX has decided that I don't need to play games online so now I rarely use it anymore. |

Because it was cheaper than dial up. A second phone line and an Isp was about $40+ a month the Broadband was about $30 a month. Saved $10 |

| Cheaper than dial up, plus I wanted to get those nice pings in online games, and the speed. So far I'm saving the money, still have the 60-80ms pings, and speed is still at the caps. I can't complain at all.

Six, maybe seven years ago my dial-up provider, IDT (yes, the same one that spams the airwaves with those ridiculous 5 cents per minute long distance ads), consolidated all their San Diego operations into one building whose resulting numbers were all toll numbers for me. At the time, Cox had just upgraded the lines in the area to support cable internet service, so I convinced my dad to dump IDT in favor of Cox.

I got broadband to move large chunks of data quickly...the upload is kind of weak but tolerable. |

ColossalCave | Pretty much same as catseyenu - along with a strong desire to have a connection that would stay connected until the end of an upload or download. It sure was sweet when upload was often at 1mbps or even better!! But at least it still stays connected until file transfer is complete.

At the time the norm was approaching $19.95/month for unlimited 56k dial-up with an ISP (»www.keytech.com) while Cox was $29.99 for 1.5 connection. Hmmm...$10 more per month for insane DL/UL speeds. Plus, I'm a tech junky! Gotta have the latest, newest, etc. I also move tons of data and preferred the 30 second times instead of the 20-40 minute times for a file transfer. I can just get more done in less time with Cox. |

Same here. Cox seemed like the best idea at the time and it was while RoadRunner managed the network. Maybe Cox will get there soon and we'll have good service again. |

Even though I personally never had a dial-up, I knew from seeing others` that I wanted broadband from the start... No tied-up phone lines
No interminable downloads
You pay a little more... you get a LOT more

I got cox for gaming. It was good Jan2000-Dec 2001, with minor hiccups, of course. But much better for gaming than it is now. |
