| AOL and Microsoft's new MN-100 Router
Has anyone had any sucess in getting AOL broadband to work with this router ? Or should I scurry on back to circuit city and return it ?
I dont understand why any old router wont work with AOL DSL (verizon). BTW,they are starting to support home networking I beleive.Go to Keyword "Home Networking" and check it out.The store carries 2 routers Linksys and some off brand.
Well,Most likely this router will not work.,so I might as well shove it in the box and just by a compatible router from the website. Im starting to get jealous over people who have a high speed service and they can use ANY router and have a network in 5 mins. |

| reply to Unreal123 AOL is a crappy broadband service...it's software is very sketchy and will only work with a couple of routers, namely the linksys router and a special action tec one, which is very very pricey.
Return the MS router...it won't work, and my guess is, with Microsoft and AOL at war over subscribers, they're not about to rewrite the software and make it work with AOL.
An even better idea: dump AOL and get a real high speed internet service. |

| reply to Unreal123 Can you just cut the crap! He asked a question and Im pretty sure "AOL is a crappy broadband service" isn't the answer he needs!

| LOL man.I think it just might be the response I need. But the fact of the matter is,my area is limited and Verizon and Adelphia powerlink is all we have. (Buffalo) Its terrible that little tiny towns out in the booneys have roadrunner and I live 20 miles from the city of buffalo and we aint got SQUAT! and from what I hear Adelphia has a worse cap than verizon does. |

| reply to Unreal123 That is extremely good advice. AOL will only work with LINKSYS or ACTIONTEC routers...it's software is proprietary and most companies will not write special code just to get their routers to work with AOL...linksys and actiontec have. You can find than info under "home networking" on the aol site.
By the way, when I'm using powerlink alone, I regularly get download speeds around 3.0 mps. Use the aol client, no more than 1.2. That is, when the aol client isn't freezing up or crashing the system.
If you want a real home network with plenty of hardware and software choices, dump aol. |
