Digital TV is the way to go!

I lived in an area served by RCN and MediaOne/ATT/Comcast. When I got fed up with MediaOne, I switched to RCN. When I got fed up with RCN, I switched to AT&T. Over the course of 3 years, I kept up with the intro offers. Yeah. Competition can help.

Of course, now I live in a new area, where AT&T the only provider. Fortunately, I've got a Digital TV tuner and a cheesey indoor UHF antenna that lets me get ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, UPN, WB, and PBS with much better picture and sound than cable (even for non-high definition broadcasts) FOR FREE!! I really don't miss cable at all....

What kind of experiences have you guys had with the 2 big problems with satellite: 1) high latency, 2) useage caps, especially during peak hours.

If you just watch TV/movies, it shouldn't be an issue, but if you use the Net heavily, or do online gaming, it can be a problem I hear.

Online gaming ain't gonna happen over Satellite. Don't bother trying.

It's a long, LONG way up to that bird, and while datastreams can be fast, latency is extremely high.

Latency is the killer of online gaming, not bandwidth (for the most part).

I've had Satellite Internet. I did not like it ONE bit. I love DirecTV, but DirecPC, and their ugly "Fair Use" policies as well as the high latencies were simply too much for me to take.

Luckily, I've had cable (from a monopoly, Cox, of course), but since they are a legally granted monopoly (county board contract) they have certain limitations on what they can and cannot do.

And sometimes they indeed do very little
