I'm cancelling the CC that is for DirecTV. if they want their gateway back. well, they'll have to pay for everything.

I think they will pay to get them back, but either way if they make us ship em ourself I would do that, not a big deal. Just put tape on the box and send it off. What's 10 or 14 bucks, not much, better then the 499$ bill. |

I have a spare Telocity branded x2 that I received from .. um, I can't say. On the final day of Telocity's/DirecTV DSL's existence I plan on setting up a webcam from my back yard and explode the x2 with at least two M80's left over from last Forth-of-July shown live on my DirecTV webspace!

NO I DID NOT terminate the service... it is up to them to ship it back... I can't imagine what for though.... they are of no value in any other application... even they can't resell them for other use unless someone wants to buy the entire DTVDSL service.

Telocity should transfer (sell) all the current subscribers to a new isp that can work with the Telocity modems. That way it would be a totally turn key transition. |

I know that if you connect 73 large Helium Balloons to the X2 it floats really well... And yes we did try this almost lost the GW outside then we tied it down but you can get them to float |

Not if they quickly assemble a team to hack the firmware reverting to a standard modem configuration. I wouldn't be too shocked to find out that such firmware already exists for development/testing purposes from the chipset manufacturers. Since it would potentially save the "migratee" ISP a bloody fortune, paying some super-demigodlike programmers to do that work in a fast manner would be very worthwhile.

If you eat the gateway, the following could occur:
1. Your eyes will flash red, green and amber.
2. Some people will develop a strange tastes for silicon
3. If you are a supermodel, you will consider it to be a month's food supply.
4. Some people will developed an uncontrollable urge to reboot themselves daily, or even hourly - unless you have a X3 or version 4.11 firmware
5. In addition, the gateways will make a wacky white elephant gift during office Chrismas parties for the readers that are employed...
PS There is probably some scrap value en mass to the gateways because of the processors inside, so don't eat them, blow them up, or feature them on a jackass stunt, just yet... |
