The X1 brick actually sinks, you can ballast your toilet tank with it. |

 | reply to DocDoo Now that's just dandy. I'm a sea kayaker and was hoping to turn my gateway into an anchor. And now you tell me it floats. Sure wish I had my old Telocity brick. -- waterdoc |

 | reply to DocDoo Personally, I think they would make a great SETI@Home device. Just think about a room full of these. Ooooh!
I am just waiting for NetBSD to be ported to them, if it is not already.... |

WARNING: Not recommended for toilets that are easily blocked by large, hard turds!
Anybody know how much the X1 and X2 gateways cost DTV/Hughes? Now they're no doubt a huge write-off. The Brick X1 model was better designed, more robust and more expensive to produce than the much cheaper "tower" model X2, which is why they tried to switch us all to the X2. It was a cheaper, less sophisticated product. And it floats.
Why don't we send one of each to Dave Letterman at NBC for the "Will It Float?" test. I bet he'd go for it.

If you sent it to NBC for Letterman, Jay Leno would probably get offended. |
|
 | But he'd showcase it anyway. |

dlathemPremium join:2000-08-11 Birmingham, AL | I just took mine apart and did not find any flotation enhancement materials inside. Now I am double mad at Telocity because Doc Doo got a better model of useless gateway than I did. Do you think I voided the warranty when I opened it up?
BTW...It had a version of the Alcatel DynaMiTe chipset on the PC board inside and lots of other electronic looking things...none of which look like they would float. I guess the wall wart could be used to do something with. Perhaps a tiny anchor for the floating gateway. |
