Re: AOL -VERY IMPORTANT INFO

i fIGURED OUT THAT YOU DON'T REALLY NEED ALL THE EQUIPMENT. wHEN YOU'RE CONFIGURING YOUR SETTINGS JUST PUT YOUR FULL AOL ADDRESS(I.E. USERNAME@AOL.COM) IT WORKS!!!!! THAT'S WAT i HAD TO DO. AND IF YOU WANT TO HOOK UP MUTIPLE PS2'S JUST USE THE FULL AOL ADDRESS AS THE USERNAME. IT WORKED FOR ME WITHOUT THE HUB.

Hello,

Yes, I am using a cross over cable. I'm thinking a regular patch cable won't do the trick. If you want to give me your email address, I'd be happy to email you directly to give you a hand.

Re: PORT NUMBERS needed

I sent a post about a month ago and the 2 NICs, wingate and crossover/eternet cables do not work. It says im online but when i try to login into NBA Live 2003 it says the server is down. I spoke to so many reps. (Sony, AOL, EA Sports) and it still doesnt work. i believe you have to set some port numbers in Wingate for certain games to work. Everyone seems like theyre only playing SOCOM. Does anyone know port settings for any other games esp. NBA Live 2003?

* I went ahead and bought a Linksys D-704 router. Hopefully this will work tonight instead of the 2 NIC cards.

Re: HOW DID u GET NBA LIVE 03 to work?!!

Could you tell me exactly how you got your NBA LIve 03 to work on AOL DSL?
Let me explain my situation:
I got XP, AOL DSL, ethernet modem, 2 NICS, crossover and ethernet cables, and WinGate.
I followed everything Joemontana instructed and got online but cannot be recognized by SCEA consumer services. I put in my NBA disk and got online and got that same message that the EA server is down. Howd you get past that? Was there any specific port settings that you inputted into WinGate? Ive been dying to play online. Maybe when we get this working we could challenge each other. (im really good)
Could you email me at deehjhay@aol.com ASAP?

PS. I just bought a Linksys router which im going to try tonight. hopefully that works.

I'm trying to tell these people that you don't even need al the equipment!!!!! All you need to do is configure your username right. If you have aol it should look like this,blazeknignj2003@aol.com I.E YOUR AOL E-MAIL ADDRESS(this is how you should enter your username for your network settings) TRY IT! I SWEAR IT WORKS BECAUSE THAT'S HOW I'M PLAYING MADDEN, LIVE, AND SOCOM RIGHT NOW!!!!!!! YOU'LL JUST WASTE YOUR TIME TRYING TO CONFIGURE WINGATE.

Re: AOL - PS2 ONLINE PROBLEM FINALLY SOLVED!!! :-)

Thanks joemontana for the very thorough instuctions using 2 NICs, Wingate 5, AOL, and a Linksys Router. I have the BFSR41 Router. This kicked my ass for a month, until I reread your instuctions for the 20th time. RTFI,RTFI, (Read The F'n Instructions). The biggest problem I had was my router was hooked into NIC 2, vice NIC 1. I put the Router in NIC 1 (Obtain IP address automatically) and configured NIC 2 as per your instuctions. My son is whooping asses in Madden right now. These instuctions works as advertised. Thanks Man. Great Info!!!

Re: HELP!!!

how did you get it to work?
I have similar things as you do.
- internal NIC from laptop
- Win XP
- 2 ethernet cables
- Linksys router

Did you still use Wingate for this connection?
this is my current set up:

AOL DSL modem -> WAN port in Linksys router
Ethernet -> from LAN port in Linksys router to Laptop (NIC)
Ethernet -> from LAN port in Linksys router to PS2 network adaptor

I contacted Linksys and configured and upgraded the firmware. I logged into AOL fine on my laptop and set the address information in the PS2 network adaptor setup disk.

Message I get "You are online, but cannot verify connection with SCEA Consumer Services"

I talked to Linksys, AOL DSL and SCEA and they didn't help at all. I figured, who else to ask these questions, but fellow gamers like you!
I tried the 2 NIC card setup a month ago and got the same error message. I bought a Dlink router and had to return it because it didnt support AOL Broadband. I'm about to return this Linksys router unless there is hope that you or anyone can give me. Im at the point of being so furious that I want to change ISPs.(ive been with AOL for 4 years)
Any information from you or anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Deehjhay, let's start from scratch. Okay?

You have a Linksys Router as of now. It should support PPPoE. Turn off everything and Disconnect your setup for just a bit and connect your Modem to the WAN Port and your computer to port 1 and PS2 on port 2, okay?

Then turn everything on.

From there, set your computer's NIC to "Obtain IP address Automatically"

Restart if you need to.

Reset if necessary.

And what I want you to do from this stand point here is to configure the router to connect with your username (Screenname@aol.com) and password.

To do so, you must tinker with the settings with your browser. The common address for the router is »192.168.1.1

From there, follow through in setting up the router with PPPoE.

If it asks you for a password, leave the username blank and just type in admin in lower case letters in the password field if this is your first time setting it up.

Once the router connects online, your computer and the PS2 should be able to connect online.

Re: AOL - PS2 ONLINE PROBLEM FINALLY SOLVED!!! :-)

DAMN U AOL!!!!

YOU MADE ME SPEND MONTHS (AND MANY CRASHES) TO COME UP WITH THIS MANUAL ON HOW TO GET YOUR STUPID SOFTWARE TO WORK WITH THE PS2 AND THEN LET US ACCESS AOL via PPPOE 3 MONTHS LATER!!! DAMN YOU AOLHELL...YOU PUT ME AND MY FRIENDS THROUGH HELL..MAKING US THINK THERE WOULD NEVER BE A DAY WHEN I COULD ACCESS AOL via PPPOE...ON TOP OF THAT YOU DONT EVEN MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT IT! I WANT AN APOLOGY!!!!

P.S. At least our demands were finally met.

Re: HELP!!!

Thanks meteor... but i tried that already...

i couldnt take this router, 2 nic card setup anymore...
its a waste of time and money...

so i just switched ISPs... i just cancelled my aol dsl account and should be getting SBC dsl in about 2 weeks..
at least, this time, its for sure going to work... a straight connection from the modem to the network adaptor... how easy is that?!...

anyways, i think aol dsl should seriously fix this problem asap or they are going to be losing customers like me...

i just want to thank everyone here for their support and responses to my posts...

as for those still attempting to set this up through AOL DSL... good luck and my suggestion would be to just switch ISPs to avoid headaches and frustration...

PS.
everyone thats into NBA Live 2003 please list your username and time (u log on).
i should be online soon and im up for a challenge...
(im pretty good) the computer at the hardest difficulty level is too easy for me... i need some real challenge...

Or! If you don't to take the approach on WAN/DHCP setup that I described just earlier just do this:

Turn the Computer OFF

Then plug the ethernet jack from the PS2 into on of the ports on the router.

Plug the ethernet cable from the DSL Modem to the Uplink Port on the router.

No go into the PS2. Under login for the ps2 type your username as yourscreenname@aol.com then type in the password.

This will also work.
