If I have AOL powered by Verizon DSL, can I switch to the bring your own access plan to get the PS2 network adapter to work? Currently I am using the dialup connection. Thanks for any advice |

You can follow the instructions above, no need to switch to bring your own access. Those with bring your own access never had a problem, this topic is for people who pay AOL directly for an entire highspeed package. (AOL Plus). |

| reply to Rooster1980 said by Rooster1980 : should i not use the sony network adaptor that i already have...and i dont really need a hub... just connect the ps2 via ethernet cable to the nic that i have on the back of my computer???
Yes and follow the software instructions above, you will need a cross-over ethernet cable not a regular one. |

| reply to joemontana More setups CONFIRMED!!!!!! Actiontec USB DSL modem is external connection 1)Internel network card running to one playstation using crossover cable and ps2 adapter.
2)Internal network card running to 3 yes 3 playstations and using linksys 5 port hub model EFAH05W
I Could'nt get wingate to load right so i used winproxy 4.0. this can be used as a NAT type server so no configurations of apps and games are necisary. Had to use manual config in ps2 setup. Autoconfigure doesnt work. we had all 3 online with socom at the same time untill 4:30 this morning IT WAS AWSOME!!!!!!
The diference is since i have a usb modem i cant use the uplink port of my hub I will try to post a diagram later |

There's no need for BYOA nascar. As Justin stated before, just follow the instruction as indicated in the beginning of this thread. If you are indeed AOL Plus user getting services directly from AOL, again simply follow the instructions above to get your PS2 working online. -- ·.·´¯`·.·Meteor Dive·.·´¯`·.· |

| reply to Rooster1980 Make a crossover out of a rj45 cat5e network cable: pin1-->orange/white-->green/White Pin2-->orange -->green Pin3-->green/white -->orange/white Pin4-->blue Pin5-->blue/white Pin6-->green -->orange Pin7-->brown Pin8-->brown/white Peel back about 3 inches of outer insulation at one end, About 2 inches from that end cut wires 1,2,3 and 6. Splice wires 1 to 3, 2 to 6, 3 to 1 and 6 to 2 and tape so they wont touch This is if you dont have the tool to put the ends on. |

| reply to joemontana okay, so apparently a USB modem with a crossover cable does work as BBman said. So now all I need to try it is a 50 ft crossover cable. The computer is about 30 feet away, but I need excess cable to run smoothly along the floor and up the computer desk (another 5ft high) and dresser where my PS2 sits (about 3 more ft.).
50 ft. crossovers are kind of expensive though ... i mean, for a damn cable ... They're not too hard to make, but I dont have the proper tools to make one. If I cant somehow get somebody else to make one, I guess my last option would be to buy one. Hopefully I can find one for about $25 or less. |

| reply to joemontana Ok, I have AOL Cable. With my current setup, I have an external ethernet modem connected to an Actiontec router. The router is then connected to a Linksys 5-Port Dual Speed hub. For me, would the best way to make this work be for me to install another NIC? Thanks for any help. |

| PS2 adapter may be connected to your network so it will pass when you "test connection" but still may not go online if connection sharing isnt set up right. If you have another computer set up on your network you can test it by starting explorer or netscape and try to go online. It has to work with no proxy configuration. When this works then the ps2 will work. try lowering firewall a notch. Im not familiar with wingate. I couldnt get it to work. Im using winproxy. In ps2 i cant get autoconfigure to work so put servers IP in for your DNS and Gatway. good luck. |

The registration form is not important, you can ignore it or skip it. the important thing is whether or not 'network test' worked, and whether or not a game works. |

@aol.com | reply to joemontana I dont know if this is useless info or not, but if you're trying to manually configure the setting on you PS2 (IP address, DNS numbers, etc.), type winipcfg.exe in the Start>Run box. |

winipcfg tells you your PC settings. Clearly do not set the PS2 to the same IP address as the PC.. either + or - one from the pc is fine.. ie if pc is 192.168.1.100 then make ps2 .101.. And you want to set the PS2 default gateway to be the PC!
network test actually does talk to the sony server, it basically looks up the iP and pings it, which tests DNS and basic connectivity. But that isnt enough to guarantee a game will work. |
