| IP Addresses 67.x.x.x.x have packet loss? Whenever I pull an IP addy of 67.x.x.x i have losts of packet loss, page timeouts, etc as noted in the first screenshot.
IP addy's starting with 68 seem normal, bottom screenshot, with no connection problems.
Anyone else?
EDIT: It now appears to be random. both 67 and 68. Reconnecting and pulling a "good" addy seems to work.
Wish I had discovered this before spending two hours last night swaping cables, removing the router, powercycling everything that I could find! hehe [text was edited by author 2002-12-30 19:36:16] |

Re: IP Addresses 67.x.x.x.x have packet loss? Yes, I am experiencing the same problems down here in Miami. I get the 67's and 68's and my connection doesn't seem to last over a prolonged (6+ hours) period of time. Very strange. |
|
 | Same her in Miami for me too. I often get a 67 address and at the late hours it goes to sh!t. |
|
 | reply to coolkoolie Hmmm... odd...
I'm having to unplug my modem to reset it every so often, like more than once per day and my IP begins with 67.xx.xxx.xx. I was about to reset the thing again cause I thought it was something on my end. Good to know it isn't I guess. It only took 1 minute and 36 seconds to load these forums... sigh.
Ran a speed test or tried to before unplugging her and got 14kbps... LOL. After unplugging it and simply connecting again it's up in the 1200's again. Any help would be appreciated, this is frustrating.

 | reply to jazzman916 Side-effects from re-routing I suppose... |
|
 | reply to ceenyne 14k huh. Don't feel bad, it happens to me every night and reseting my modem a million times doesn't make a difference until the following morning. It's definitely the routing problem and it has gotten to be a nightmare. But hey 14k isn't to bad because my connection will eventually go to 0K, all attempts to get a page timeout, again till morning. Sucks the big one. |

During the day, my connection is great - good speed, no packet loss, never lose sync - no problems at all. But starting around 5pm, I get extreme latency & packet loss - when my modem can keep sync. I'm certainly no expert, but I can't see how the problem can be on my end when nothing about my setup or line changes from day to night. |

That is a little different than my issue. I never lose sync.
Do you have any lamps or a nearby street light that is on a timer or comes on at dark? That could be causing your issues. -- Jump on over to the Tweaks Forum to get the most from your box. Then head to the Security Forum to secure it. |

Routing has nothing to do with maintaining synch.

Oh there may be changes to the line from day to night radio frequency interference may be one of them.
Any chance of connecting to the NID while the trouble is happening? This will eliminate the inside wiring as a source of the trouble.

 | reply to jazzman916 I am not saying it is the case here, but with every other ISP I have been with (Dial-up, Cable or Satellite), when the packet loss and latency creeps up during prime time internet hours it has been due to overcrowding on the ISP's network. |

faspina join:2000-09-05 Birmingham, AL | I seem to have the same symptom you guys have.
Speed test go from 1MB to .2MB/.3MB , ping time get really bad, and I have to reset the modem several times to get a good "connection" seem to happen more toward the end of the day but can happen in the morning as well.
Bottom line the connection is either GREAT or NOT GREAT. No middle of the road for me. |

jtm11 join:2001-08-30 Memphis, TN | reply to Splitpair My DSL line is home run from a splitter at the NID, but I'll try checking the connection at the NID tonight when the trouble starts. I can't think of anything near my house that has changed in the past 3 weeks that would cause rf interference at night only. I'm not sure what kind of stats my modem (Alcatel 1000) keeps up with, but I'll try to pull what I can from it in a couple of hours - have to wait until my computer finishes rendering the povray image it's been working on for almost 2 days . |
|
 | Dude, lots of us are having the same problem such as myself and nothing has changed interference wise for myself and I'm sure most of the others either. Most peoples latency and speed issues are attributed to BS's routing problem and until it is resolved its gonna be headaches for everyone trying to troubleshoot problems. I know for a fact my problem is BS's. Once again my speed is awesome right now but last night it went from bad to cold crap. This happens every night for the past couple of weeks and there are NO sources of interference near me. |

How would you know?
Anyhow I was referring to a posters loss of synch which has nothing to do with routing.

Re: IP Addresses 67.x.x.x.x have packet loss? I never said that I lost synch. I retain my synch all the time; it's my connection that gets dropped randomly (I have to reboot my modem to reconnect), and that I believe is a routing problem... |
