Short Explanation of RPCSS.EXErpcss.exe (Remote Procedure Call Server Service)
This file relates to a function within a machine, stand alone or on a network. Any method of communication between any of two or more PC's should be regarded as a network connection.
Server Service relates to the ability for a machine on a network to share files and printer functionality with other machines on the same network.
Rpcss.exe is the resolver/end-point mapper process that needs to be running before any remote DCOM calls can be made. Under Windows NT, RPCSS is a Windows NT service, which is started when the machine is started. Under Windows 95, RPCSS process is started on a "lazy" or as-needed basis.
On a Stand Alone PC, simple security measures are taken by turning OFF all File and Print sharing in IPX/SPX - NetBEUI and TCP/IP Protocols
On Network PC's, turn OFF all in every PC (as above) except in the the network card protocol.
Then Install a Firewall. |
