Buck FushGreat Minds With Great Debts. join:2001-02-24 | Alcatel SpeedTouch Home/Pro -> SpeedTouch 510 ... Well boys, and possibly girls, I have successfully modified my SpeedTouch Home, which was alterted to SpeedTouch Pro a few months back using a software upgrade, has now been upgraded to SpeedTouch 510 using yet another software upgrade.
I have included 2 pictures of the new web interface, I will include more once I have properly configured it, notice the red text on left, it means I have no sync.
I will be happy to provide more information. -- So much for the Enterprise-E. -- Cmdr. Beverly Crusher We barely knew her. -- Capt. Jean-Luc Picard Think they'll build another one? -- Cmdr. Beverly Crusher Plenty of letters left in the alphabet. -- Capt. Jean-Luc Picard |

I would be interested to see how you did this... like maybe if you wanted to provide the steps of how you did it... i'm just wondering... does it work right ?... and would it be safe to do this kind of upgrade to a Speedtouch Home ? |

Re: Alcatel SpeedTouch Home/Pro -> SpeedTouch 510 ... What advantage is there to doing this? I think it is neat being able to change by flashing the unit and change it completely. -- I cannot deny anything I did not say |

Re: Alcatel SpeedTouch Home/Pro -> SpeedTouch 510 Well from what i've read on »www.speedtouchdsl.com.. The 510 has a built-in firewall.. uPNP... and probably (i'm guessing)... built-in PPPOe... so if the speedtouch home can be converted to work like a 510... i think that would be cool.. |
|
 | reply to Buck Fush Well there is a web page that has to do with conversion from a Speedtouch Home --> 510... but it's in German... and going to »babelfish.altavista.com fails to translate it to english..
The German web page is here: »www.bruring.com/nuke/modules.php···&artid=9
Anyone know German ? |

Re: Alcatel SpeedTouch Home/Pro -> SpeedTouch 510 ... Here goes nothing;
Disclaimer: This procedure can render your modem useless if done incorrectly, so please be advised you are taking a risk, and I am not liable.
Requirements: SpeedTouch Home/Pro w/ Gv8... type firmware. Do not flash if your modem firmware starts with K... Modem owner w/ balls (it can f up your modem, mine went through just fine though) Gv8baa3.281 firmware (included) GV8BAA3.721 firmware(510 Patched Firmware (included) SpeedTouch 510 Configuration Tool (included) Basic PPPoE Profile for ON/QC (included) Putty for Telnet sessions (included, winblows one is gh3y)
1. We need to configure our computer's TCP/IP settings so we can reach the modem, modem by default uses ip address 10.0.0.138 so we need to change the computer's ip to something like 10.0.0.x where x is not 138 w/ a subnet of 255.255.255.0. Gateway can be the modem's ip. If you had altered your modem's IP, then you should know what to do here. From hereon, I will represent the modem's ip as SpeedTouch.
2. Go to the modem's web interface at »SpeedTouch, hit the Upgrade page where you will notice 2 firmwares; active and passive. Delete the passive one('Remove Passive') and then upload Gv8baa3.281 in its spot using same page. Once it has uploaded, it will show Gv8baa3.281 in Passive spot, hit the 'Switch over' button and let the modem reboot. Now, it will have the original firmware which was active in passive spot, delete it, and upload Gv8baa3.281 there as well.
3. EXPERT mode/Challenge String Now we need to obtain the response for a challenge string; which is the modem's mac address. There are multiple ways of obtaining that, you can use the Nubz tool to obtain it or »www.bruring.net/alcapass.php to obtain it but first we need the actual challenge string so fire up Putty and punch in your modem's ip(can use windows telnet client as well from Dos/Command prompt by typing telnet SpeedTouch and leave the port alone and hit open. Type in your user/pass. Once you are at the prompt, type: 'td' hit Enter 'prompt' hit Enter It will show you some disclaimer and other text, but before the password prompt, there will be your challenge string reading:
'SpeedTouch (00-00-00-00-00-00)'
copy it, and then paste it on the website and hit Generate password, if you don't want to go through all this mess, load up Nubz 0.9d7, login then hit the Console button, obtain code and agree to the next window, that will give you your password, just copy it, and write it down somewhere for future reference. Punch it in at the telnet prompt. Now you have entered Trace and Debug mode. Minimize the telnet window, I repeat, DO NOT CLOSE IT.
4. 510 Patched firmware upload
Go back to the upgrade page on the web interface, and remove the passive firmware Go back to the telnet prompt and type 'softwa cleanup' hit enter. Minimize telnet windows once again, while making the webinterface one active. Upload GV8BAA3.721 firmware in the passive slot (if upload is successful, then please carry on to next step) If there is an error, you will need to login to the ftp server of the modem using expert, which I am not too sure about either. According to the original Dutch doc, they say you login »ftp://expert:password@SpeedTouch but I don't know which password it is, is it the regular password you use to login to the modem, or is it the password for the challenge string. Anyhow, since I didn't explore this feature, I can't really help you there, but original doc says that you login to the ftp and delete file start.cmd, do 'softwa cleanup' once again on the telnet window and reupload the 510 firmware using web interface.
5. Booting the new firmware Assuming your 510 firmware upload was successful, you will need to switch the firmware, but before we do that, the original doc specified that we disconnect the modem's phone cable, I don't know what difference that makes myself, so I guess it would be a good idea to do it anyway. Now reboot the modem. If your firmware upload was successful the first time, and you didn't do the ftp method, the modem will not boot off the 510 firmware, so, you will have to go the upgrade page on web i and 'Switch over'
6. Configuring the modem
I have included a .ini file, which is sort of a setup file for the modem, which tells it what kind of protocol etc etc etc, I suggest you read the CLI Reference Manual for the 510 to better understand it. The configuration is set to have modem login to the provider, while spoof the wan ip to first pc which asks its dhcp server(the first pc to ask for an ip from the modem will get the wan ip it got from the PPPoE server) so simply load up the setup tool while the .ini file is in the same directory, other stuff is just basic. It will ask you for 2 users/passwords; one is for yor ISP etc, the second is for your modem's interfaces(web/telnet etc)
All the files have been included in a Self-Extracting(SFX) WinRAR file which you can obtain from here:

Buck FushGreat Minds With Great Debts. join:2001-02-24 | Yes, Alcatool with work for those connection graph features you require but, some other things won't function, since the menu structure changes. Its really for those who don't have routers.
But if I understand it correctly, your modem firmware begins wit K so you can't/shouldn't do it anyway! -- So much for the Enterprise-E. -- Cmdr. Beverly Crusher We barely knew her. -- Capt. Re: Alcatel SpeedTouch Home/Pro -> SpeedTouch 510 ... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO mine starts with K why is starting with K bad ? |
|
Buck FushGreat Minds With Great Debts. join:2001-02-24 | reply to Buck Fush OK, the firmware for the 510 has been hexed, and the ones starting with K don't have exact hardware as the ones that start with G, while 510 v3 is exact replica of G firmware based Home/Pro besides some hardware reference which has been hexed out from origial 510 v3 firmware so it works with it.
You can go ahead and try it, but you will fry your modem because I bet the people who did it, must have tried it with a modem from K firmware based batch as well.
BTW, K firmware based modems are older ones. -- So much for the Enterprise-E. -- Cmdr. Beverly Crusher We barely knew her. -- Capt. Jean-Luc Picard Think they'll build another one? -- Cmdr. Beverly Crusher Plenty of letters left in the alphabet. -- Capt. Jean-Luc Picard |

 | reply to Buck Fush I'm wondering if you upgrade alcatel Home to PRO will it be able to dial to dsl provider by itself? |
|
Buck FushGreat Minds With Great Debts. join:2001-02-24 | reply to Buck Fush no, PRO does not have a built in PPPoE client, 510 does however. |
|
 | so then was you able to get connected with your isp? |
|
 | reply to alfed YES! You will be able to get connected to your ISP, either on a "on demand" basis or "always on".
It works, here's the page that explains how:
»snow.prohosting.com/maltadsl/
Read Step Two: Configuring your modem for PPP.
Tried it here, works no problems!

Buck FushGreat Minds With Great Debts. join:2001-02-24 | SwissJay do you know the difference between PPTP and PPPoE? There's a huge difference. Most Canadians CLECs use PPPoE, so, that won't work here.
You will either need a PPPoE client on a pc and a modem working in bridged mode or router + bridged modem or modem with pppoe client built in. Home, neither Home Pro has that feature, while 510 does.
Yes, Mafia, I can have the modem make the connection for me, along with, have DHCP_Spoofing, what that does is, enable the modem's DHCP server, which gives out the exact connection info(IP, Subnet, DNS, Wins etc) it gets from the PPPoE server to the first client that queries its DHCP server. Take a look at the pictures for proof of it making connection. -- So much for the Enterprise-E. -- Cmdr. Beverly Crusher We barely knew her. -- Capt. Notice how my link is up, but my state is down. That's where my problem is, I don't know how to make the connection.
