| [Network] AT&T Broadband Problem: Great Download, NO UPLOAD!
I've had ATTBI for about 3 weeks now and I'm experiencing a problem which is rendering my connection useless. The download speeds are great, but the upload speed is so slow that the connection times out, this is true for emailing attachments, uploading files, even filling out web forms! It seems to be a widespread problem, I'm pasting a message from another forum below which details the issue perfectly... I'm hoping that a network guru will read this and help us out! Thanks! >Sending Attachments Problem: >I'm using OS 10.2.3 and sending mail with Apple's Mail application. I can send text only emails through all mail servers that I have accounts on without a problem (AT&T, .mac, mindspring, work mail server). However, when I try to email an attachment (under a 1MB) the only mail server that can push the attachment through is the AT&T mail server. 99% of may daily emailing is done through my work mail server, and not being able to send attachments through this server is very inconvenient. One important detail is that this a recent problem -- I have been using the ATTbi service for about 8 months and only recently (late November, early December) have I had this issue. Before November, I could send email attachments through any mail server I had an account on without a hitch. > >Other Related Problems: >Other recent problems Include a limited inability to upload files. I can not upload photos through iPhoto to order prints or to create web-pages. I can not upload files to my iDisk. I can upload files through FTP, and I can upload photos to my iDisk if I Tunnel through TCP/IP using AppleTalk. > >Process of Elimination: >- I'm using a PowerBook G4 > Tried the wife's iMac -- Same email/upload problems occurred (Computer eliminated) > >- I'm using an Airport > Plugged directly into the cable modem using a new ethernet cable -- Same email/upload problems occurred (Airport eliminated) > >- I'm using Mail to send email > Tried Eudora, and Outlook Express -- Same email/upload problems occurred (particular mail application eliminated) > >- I'm using OS 10.2.3 > Booted under OS 9.2.2 -- Same email/upload problems occurred (OS eliminated) > >- I'm using AT&T as my home ISP > Took my computer to work and tried my work ISP -- Email/upload problems did not occur > >So it looks like AT&T is the problem (and again, this is all a recent issue). I called AT&T tech support to no avail -- They simply check the Network status in my area an tell me there is nothing wrong. They also tell me that I have to use Outlook Express, which is unacceptable for me. > >Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone now how to get a better level of tech support out of AT&T? (oh BTW, I call Apple about this too and they were very helpful, but in the end unable to help). I live in a hilly region of the San Francisco Bay Area, and the only provider up here is AT&T, so I really need this problem solved > >Thanks >Greg > > >>Would like to hear from anyone having problems wuth Eudora for the Mac. (v5.1, 5.2) using Classic (OS 9.2) sending mail on ATTBI. >> >>Apparently in mid-November ATTBI updated their email server software and Eudora is now "unhappy" having a timeout problem after sending emails - gives a TCP/IP Error -3162 "The server is not responding" alert. >> >>Of course AT&T support says they've made no changes and has you go through all the settings, etc. when nothing's changed. You can see from AT&T and Apple support forums posts from users who started having this and other issues so obviously they did something. >> >>Anyone successful getting an answer from AT&T and resolving the >>issue? I'd like to put in a bug report to their Maillennium email >>server software team but would like inputs to show it's not just >>me. I sadly don't have anything helpful to add apart from to say that my AT&T Broadband exhibits EXACTLY the same behaivour! I posted this issue at: »discussions.info.apple.com/WebX?14@48...[?] Look in the AT&T Broadband Upload Problem... thread. There was some useful information posted, sadly none of it fixed my problem, it may work for you though. I agree that this issue makes the connection virtually unusable, if it can't be fixed I'll probably be looking elsewhere. Please let me know if you find anything out! Good luck! |

| reply to tbrandall I am having a problem with packet loss at peak hours of every night of the day. Every night at around 5 my cable modem stops sending packets to the gateway abotu every 6-8 seconds. When i play counter-strike, i'll warp, and that is very frustrating because i play counter-strike very competetively and with this annoying warping i play sub-par. I am wondering if anyone else has this problem of packet loss at peak hours. Also, i have noticed that my upload at peak hours as been as low as 8 Kbps! 8 kbps! thats 56k style upload, but like 10 times worse. I have a Motorola Sb4100 cable modem. Can anyone give me information about this, if the cable modem is known to crap out like this, etc. Thank you. I am in Sacramento CA. |
