Yep, happened to me last summer too.. that's why I went back to DSL.
The trouble is the AOL Data Transit Network (I guess AOL insists that TWC use it?). Anyway, at peak hours it sucks incredibly... in fact, it just sucks ALL the time. Look at the number of hops just to get beyond AOL!

You can choose Roadrunner, Earthlink or (I think?) AOL as your ISP when signing up for cable modem service from Time Warner Cable.
The trouble that I had was that even though I was using Earthlink as my ISP, TWC routed everything through the crappy AOL Data Transit Network.

All of the "atdn.net" hops are the AOL Transit Data Network.

From a command/MS-DOS window, type "tracert [name of site or IP]". For example, "tracert www.dslreports.com" or "tracert 123.456.7.8"

| Re: Time Warner Roadrunner ya i remember the problem back in july really ticked me off it lasted a whole month. The browsing and downloads arent bad at all for me its online gaming. Its like i told the RR tech, i work hard for my money 10 -12 hour days and i pay $45 a month for this service when i get off work and i want to relax i like to get online with my friends and go fragging. Pinging 250 to a server we pay $130 a month for just adds to the frustrations of 13 year olds kicking my ass. I hate isp's they all have issues and its never their fault | |

Am I understanding correctly that you pay $130 per month to access this gaming server?

| yes my clan has its own 32 man server that we pay 130 a month for. Its not the money 130 isnt shit its point of having a service i pay for (TW) thats affecting my other service (game server). I really wish we had more choices in broadband maybe then these companies would actually care if their product is subpar and start losing customers | |

| Re: Time Warner Roadrunner Bah...ISDN? I pay good money to Warner for a solid connect and there is NO reason they can't provide that. If the oversubscribe a node then break out a new one. In this case, they have been messing with the route tables again as illustrated by the above picture. I understand when prime time is around you can expect to take a small hit, but what I am describing is not a small hit (degradation of performance along the lines of 600%). Whenever you see that type of jump, it is NOT because a bunch of peeps decided to use the Internet that night. Something is broke. | |

I'm not defending the TimeWarner routing, nor the atdn network.
I've had occasional problems myself. But they have been few and far between since the problems early last summer. -- One riot; 71 Rangers.

Thought for the day: At a nationally broadcast news conference, a U.S. reporter asked a French diplomat why his country was so adamantly opposed to the U.S.'s actions in Iraq. The French diplomat responded with accusations and went on ranting for nearly 20 minutes, all the while not allowing the reporter to respond. When the diplomat finished, the reporter asked one question, "Sir, I just have one last question, do you speak German?" The French diplomat stated "no", and the reporters response was "Your welcome". I agree, I would prefer not to just e-mail someone that I don't know. That's a good way to get lots of spam.
