My previous attempts to use a wired router failed, could not get the router to recognize the IP through the Modem. Would appreciate any advise on setting up a wireless system, compatible hardware etc. Thanks! |

SBBD should give you a static IP. Most consumer routers are by default DHCP which means they will check the modem and use it's numbers. Then you plug in your computer into the router and you've got internet!
It's not quite that easy but just by plugging in all required components I usually got some connection and this last time everything worked immediately. Wireless is harder but not too much.
Ask for details if you need them |

Re: Netgear Wireless home network?? Has anyone connected a Netgear 814 wireless access point? I cannot seem to use my sbb modem with this unit. I even purchased a new cross-over LAN cable to see if mine was defective. The modem to ethernet to web works fine?? I believe something is wrong with the modem to router connect, however I get an IP address and router address but no web. thx |

How did I decide mine was that way? It's been too long now. Just wondering if it's the same for everyone here. Could help in setting up the router. |

I have had the same IP/Gateway/DNS address since the beginning (over two years now). I have always just plugged those numbers into my router and wa-la. Every machine I connect to my little LAN has instant internet. |

zukem join:2001-11-19 Phoenix, AZ | dns on modems each modem group can have their own dns config. typically each market has assigned dns servers and a domain name.
the parameters are loaded into the cable modem, your PC as a dhcp client takes whatever the modem give it.
-z -- if you're not signal, you're part of the noise. |

Ive tried setting the computer to auto get an ip when booting to see if my IP had been changed and me not notified when packet loss was so bad. it couldnt get an IP. are they using dhcp on the modems in any market?. mine has been static since i got it. |

Re: Wireless home network I have SBBD with a Linksys BEFSR41 broadband router behind it. If I recall, when the service was first installed, the account name they gave me was also entered in as my computer's host name (computer name). They may check the host name. I think I had to set the host name in the Linksys to get the connection to work. I also entered in ut.sprintbbd.net in the domain name field in the Linksys but I think it worked without this. Then I set it to obtain the IP automatically. Strange thing though, If I turn off the computer that originally was set up with the service, the other computers hooked up to the Linksys can no longer connect to the internet. Just plain weird. |
