| IE 6.0 & Total Access 2003 question
I am using IE 6.0 on Windows 2000. When I use my DSL I get one set of bookmarks (favorites). When I dial in with TA2003 I get a different set of bookmarks.
Is this a bug (feature) in the TA2003 software, or something very weird in Windows?
Perhaps I should use a different dialer to access dialup when my DSL refuses to allow me to browse? Will Earthlink allow the standard Windows 2000 dialup networking for dialup access?
Thanks for any suggestions. |

TotalAccess 2003 normally uses the same location for your favorites, regardless of the type of connection you are using. If you are losing your favorites when switching connection methods, the only thing we can really suggest is to try reinstalling the program.
You can use the dialup networking software built into Windows 2000 to connect via dialup. Just set everything to server-specified, and use your full email address as the username and your password as the password and it will work the same as any other standard PPP dialup connection.

| It is a issue but you have to rememeber in XP and 2k the software installs your 'profile' into a seperate directory compared to the old Earthlink 5.x so it can be alittle confusing. One trick you can try to do is go into your IE version and under programs do 'reset web settings' and then try it. Its a stupid thing but actually something that Earthlink found resolved alot of problems with IE and Total Access ;p |

| I discovered today that this is definitely a TA2003 issue. I dialed in today using the Windows Dial Up Networking instead of TA2003, and had all my normal bookmarks.
I then dialed in with TA2003 and had a totally different set of bookmaarks.
Earthlink heeds to fix this.
I dont believe that it has anything to do with profiles, because I dod not change logins on the computer, just used a different way to dial in.
Any Ideas anyone??? |

Doc Olds, Searching for favorites, I found this. The arrows point to the locations where the favorites are located that show up when I dial up using TA2003.
C:\Documents and Settings\jtudor\Application Data\Earthlink\6.0\jrtudor@earthlink.net\Favorites
There are similar patsh for my other e-mail addresses.
This is a feature of TA2003 I can do without. Is there a way to turn this off?
At least I now know where the missing Favorites are located, and can copy them to my regular folder. From now on I will just use a regular DUN connection whenever I need to dial in.
Thanks for the suggestion. [text was edited by author 2003-01-13 22:29:10] |

| Didnt I say this in a earlier post where it hides them Or more exact that it puts them in a stretched patch compared to the nice old C:\program files\Earthlink\(email account)\

Earthlink's Total Access 2003 allows you to manage your Favorites via the software. You can get to the Favorites as follows:
Click on the arrow next to the web logo on the Task Panel.
From the drop-down menu, click on the option 'Favorites'. This lists the favorite sites that you have selected on your Personal Start Page. Choose Edit Favorites to open your web browser to your Personal Start Page, where you can edit the list of Favorites. Choose Refresh Favorites if you have added favorites to your Start Page but they aren't listed on this list.
The Start Page Favorites do change the Favorites listed when you load the Favorites in Total Access software.
The favorites in IE are IE's Favorites only. They are not effected by Total Access.
If you click on Favorites on the Total Access toolbar you will see a different list of Favorites. This is Total Access Favorites only.
You can view the Favorites that are loaded in Total Access by searching your system for your email address. There will be a file called favorites you can edit and change. This is your Start Page favorites.
Also there will be a folder called Favorites. These are a copy of your IE favorites. When you change them in IE they will change here. This will not matter which way you connect.
So, the answer is yes you will see more than one location of Favorites on your system.
Please let me know if I answered all your questions or more important if I did not answer them all let me know. Yes, I am aware the post started with a template look for general information about changing the Total Access favorites.

| I love this remark: "The favorites in IE are IE's Favorites only. They are not effected by Total Access."
Considering that IE is the only browser used by Total Access 2003 most would find it curious that the system has two seperate favorites.
Naturally you can copy and paste them over to import into the toolbars favorite listing. As when you click on Web it shows you a generic listing their.
But by all rights outside of your PSP which you type in your favorites I will be double checking at work on the setup. Personally I see no need or use for the toolbar or the program since its only taking up space on my Hard Drive when I messed with the beta version.
Now who's ready to see what happens on the 15th and the end of this month?
Will I be shown wrong about the new total access version or will the e-support groups.
Any bet takers? |
