Re: Why the different route?

UPDATE!! UPDATE!! UPDATE!!
Good news to all in this forum. New info about the latency and routing. The upgrades to the BRIB are almost complete. They started in November and have completely replaced the BRIB one section at a time. As for the latency issues and the routing problems, BRIB architects are aware of this and assured me all routing would be taken care of. We will be routed to the closest POP city(ATL,MIA,NOL). The ETR, I was told goes like this; Miami is to be turned up and finalized by the end of next week. Between Orlando and ATL should be up by MON. or TEUS of next week. Because of these two major sites left to go, some routing is still affected. It wont be long now and all our problems will be over. Even after these cities are up there may be some issues until everyone is routed properly. I will be keeping in contact with the architect and will post any delays or other info that will be helpful.

No change in Charlotte, NC yet.
GW5.NOL1.ALTER.NET is still my route.
I just switched from DirecTV and did not really know
why BellSouth had such a bad ping.

I am not sure where NC is going to get routed.. probably Atlanta?

We clearly show like some users going back to normal and others still being routed through NOL.. and i am one of the many.. basicly all people in Florida are getting re-routed through NOL..

Guess we will know when we go through MIA when we see MIA again

It's coming

Also, to those who have their routes changed from NOL and DFW/HOU to the local POP: could you please post tracerts just so we know who gets routed where and how they compare to others?

I hope that Bellsouth routes us to the actual internet in as few hops as possible. I've been a charter.net subscriber for a year and I believe that charter tries to keep all their subscribers on their little network for as long as possible before letting you get on the internet. I would guess that this has to do with the money they have to spend or else why do it? I play online games pretty frequently and it takes 12 hops for me to get to a game server I rent in Washington DC. The crazy route I must go through is all the way to Dallas, TX before actually getting on the internet. I live in middle TN. I'll paste below a tracert I just ran. It is 9 am so the network is not very busy and my ping is under 80 right now. During off peak hours my ping will go as low as 70 ms but, at night it goes above 200 sometimes like it was doing last night. That is another reason that I'm going to Bellsouth. Just waiting on my modem to arrive. I hope Bellsouth really will be giving us the straightest shot to the internet and not do like charter and keep you on their little network for as long as possible. I have a friend in my same town who still has DirecTV DSL and had him ping my server and at the same time I was getting 85 ms he was getting 40 ms and his number of hops was down at least a couple less than mine with charter. I'm assuming that since DirecTV DSL in my area was using Bellsouth for their actual network my pings to my server will be similar to his. If anyone wants to ping 63.210.56.85 I'd be interested to hear your results. Thanks.

Hi all

ke4rzi, I also live in Columbia, TN. I think you will be very satisfied with BellSouth, once they get everything ironed out. I didn't have much luck with Charter...imho...they oversold their bandwidth...their tech support was unsatisfactory when I was with them last year...so I moved six miles down the road just so I could get DSL from BellSouth...their tech support is much better.
Just be patient as we all have been...cya around

Heck, that doesn't look as good as the crappy routing that Charter has in place and the same number of hops. Also, your pings don't look very good either. If I'm reading that correctly it looks like Bellsouth is also going through Dallas, TX and then heads up to Washington. I'll be one of the shortest term customers they've ever had if the pings aren't good. That's one of the main reasons I left Charter. I already sent you a message through DSL Reports about our local power company finishing their cable tv and internet system in a few months. I may be headed that way as soon as they get any bugs worked out they may find during the early stages. Just ping 63.210.56.85 and let me see what you are getting. I was sure hoping for less than 12 hops to Washington where my game server is located. To top off the rest of this bad news I've been reading in this long thread, the Titans are losing due to a bunch of darn turnovers. I'm just getting disgruntled all the way around. There's no doubt that BS is changing their routing so that it saves them money. For $50 a month I don't care how much they've got to spend to have a good network. $50 a month is as high a payment for that sort of speed as you'll find most anywhere. They want to charge premium price for a premium product. They better show the premium product. I'm about to tell the shipper to return to sender. Wish you had already been signed up and let me know how your tracert looked before I signed up. Hey, what kind of upload and download speeds are you getting with the speed test sites here at DSL reports. I hope you're getting at least 1200 down and around 220 up. Let me know, thanks.

Speedtests do in fact show avg 1200kbps down...215kbps up...transfer rate is 150kbps...like I said...be patient.
You will be happy with BS once they get it ironed out.
