| Sprint 642M firmware problem...
Hello,
I have Sprint ADSL CPE. Front panel says Sprint 642M. Back sticker says: SP-642ME ADSL modem-bridge.
I updated firmware with ZyXEL Prestige 642ME-11 2.50(AV.3)C0. It seems that it doesnt work ADSL light is not up and tests say modem not up. But I can configure it through WEB interface and can login to ZyNOS.
ATSH command says the next information:
RAS version : V2.50(AV.3) | 4/15/2002 romRasSize : 994640 bootbase version : V2.02 | 3/8/2001 Product Model : Prestige 642R MAC Address : 00A0C540B861 Default Country Code : FF Boot Module Debug Flag : 00 RomFile Version : 62 RomFile Checksum : d447 RAS F/W Checksum : c6cb SNMP MIB level & OID : 060102030405060708091011121314151617181920 Main Feature Bits : 84 Other Feature Bits : 2e 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 13 00 00 00
Now I want to return my original firmware or any firmware that will work, but all time I try to upload any firmware I get the next text:
Wrong product firmware!! 255 Please upgrade the newest firmware version!!
Is it possible to correct this situation?
Thanks. |

| reply to SadMan6 I'm the same situation; almost the same - because I have never been able to use the web interface and now even telnet doesn't work. I can only connect through a COM port. I'm stuck with the AV.3 firmware version.
I think I have original firmware (AQ.0) and configuration file on my hard drive but I cannot upload it; nor any other firmware that I was able to upload before. It looks like AV.3 firmware closed the door behind itself and doesn't want any changes in the modem (but I can upload a configuration file). I already tried AR.3 mention by eugenek (thanks for the link) with the same result.
I e-mailed Zyxel support 2 days ago but I don't expect much help from them. For some reason they pulled out almost all firmware files from their sites (only Russian site keeps reasonable supplies) all over the world. It doesn't look promising.
I've already opened the case and I'm looking with great irritation on the PCB. I can see two pins - are they asking to be shorted with a jumper? I'm in a desperate mood.
SadMan! Have you made your modem work? Could any of the smart people on this board give me a hint what to do next? I'm ready to do some soldering on the PCB if necessary |

| Thanks for your response. I've just posted on your suggestion on Sprint ION. On my own I decided to post also on Sprint FastConnect. If only there is a person who made the same mess in this modem, solved the problem, and read my post...
Thanks again. |

| reply to SadMan6 ok, here is what sadman emailed me. I thought I would post to let other people know about it. The general idea is to disable so called "check model mechanism", there is a command "ATDC" You type this after you enter the debug mode, and then use "ATUR" and upload new firmware via xmodem with HyperTerminal. I got past the error, but it was just a matter of finding the right firmware to reload. Hope this helps someone. |

| I did the same. But I still can't connect to my ISP. I still can't log in using web browser to start the wizard setup. I can telnet and I can use a serial port. I don't think there is anything wrong with my PC since I connect it to my router and network printer all 3 devices work. I can print, I can login in a web browser onto both: the router and the printer. I fail to do the same with the Sprint modem, either when it is connected to the router or to the NIC in my PC (the router removed). The modem synchronizes - ADSL lights up and ZyNOS shows:
WAN: Status: 10M/Half Duplex Tx Pkts: 67 Line Status: Up Collisions: 0 Rx Pkts: 10 Upstream Speed:160kbps CPU Load = 18.69% Downstream Speed: 1184 kbps
I'm slowly giving up. I guess I understand too little about this stuff. |
