 Yahoo upgrade questions

I got the email today inviting me to upgrade to Yahoo.
Do I need to bypass my router during the upgrade?
After the upgrade, do I need to change the login in the router and if so will it be newname@sbcglobal.net?
Does the news server/news server login change?
If you don’t have to install any software upgrade, why does it immediately try to install the “Yahoo Install Manager”?

I got the same email today. All very good questions. I am still waiting a while to do this. I want to see if people are successful before doing it.

I'll be watching the results, too....

I got no email today, though...

What I'd really like is: Tell me what to change (if anything) on my Linky setup screen.....
and also on my Outlook 2002 email account,
and Newsgroups info for Outlook Express ....

I'm not interested in downloading any Internet Explorer add on...

Change nothing. You can choose not to install software in the migration, also.

Oops! You will have to make changes, I just realized. It only updates mail settings for Outlook Express, so you'll need to change your settings for Outlook (although the servers you're currently using will still work for an undetermined amount of time).

Mail servers will be pop.ameritech.yahoo.com and smtp.ameritech.yahoo.com, and login name will be the full uid@ameritech.net.

OK I just cut & Pasted it into my 'conversion' text file on the desktop... Once I get the email to do so, I'll change the Outlook 2002 settings, and try it. Thanks for making it software-less!!

Ok, here's a couple of questions.

I don't really understand all that's going on with this anymore. I haven't been paying close attention for some time now.

1. What will happen if someone doesn't migrate their account voluntarily? Will it eventually be done for them without their knowledge or consent?

2. Is there anything at all about this that could possibly screw up a connection, get someone's speed capped, or anything like that?

3. Will these mail servers be more stable than the crappy servers that Ameritech currently has?

That's all I can think of for now.

1. Nothing. No.

2. No.

3. I would guess they will be about the same.

SBC Yahoo! service? Larger mailboxes, web access to mail, storage space, premium games access, Consumer Reports access....stuff like that.

The items that will be most useful to me are having both dialup and DSL connected at the same time, nationwide dialup, online storage, and web mail (although I already have mail2web.com as a workaround for web mail). However, I plan to monitor this process for a while before I do the upgrade.

What kind of software in this upgrade? Isn't there a Yahoo browser like AOL or something?

I too will wait a long while before entering myself into the SBC goliath database. Alhtough I do appreciate very much being able to keep my email address . I've heard from many pissed off AT&T customers about their email changing 2-3 times in the past year.

Yeah, I too am glad we get to keep our e-mail. It would be quite a pain to go back and update all the places that I used my email.

My inlaws are one of them. They were pissed about having to change when @home went under, and they're even more upset about the Comcast merger.
