| reply to janderso1 I received the SBC Email the other day. I have copied the information for the mail servers but have not seen any information for the Newsgroup server, will this remain unchanged. I have UL I have Ameritech DSL I utilize a Linky I use Opera for my browser I use TheBat! for my email I use Agent 1.8 for my news reader I have one ( 1 ) email address that I want to retain What do you gentlemen suggest that I do, shall I sit and wait or should I go ahead and upgrade. I am just a bit confused as you can probably tell. Thank you for your assistance -- Ameritech.net - Has definitely improved by several giant steps |

| Once you migrate all you have to do is go into TheBat! and change the login userid to be your userid with the @ameritech.net. Change the servers to pop.sbcglobal.net and smtp.sbcglobal.net and set the accountgoing server to require authentication. Everything else should by AOK. -- »www.tfn.net/~jdbaucum |

Told you not to go first. Change confuses you.
Your ID stays the same. Your e-mail stays the same. Your login stays the same. Your SMTP and POP SERVERS change to:
POP: pop.ameritech.yahoo.com SMTP: smtp.ameritech.yahoo.com
I still haven't received my e-mail, so I'm not going to risk changing yet. |

| reply to janderso1 Okeh, I'm going to submit my FAQ in about an hour. Here's what I've put in. If anyone has any suggestions/comments/corrections let me know.
How do I migrate? Just visit the website »yahoo.sbc.com/activatedsl/download.html
Do I need to bypass my router or make any other system changes during the upgrade? No, just visit the site and run through the registration.
What is the Yahoo! migration? When you migrate your account you will have the EXACT same service as before with some added features. The only thing you will need to worry about is that your e-mail will be sent to different servers and your account info is now accessable at sbc.yahoo.com. Aside from that your connection and everything else will be the same. The "Extra" features will be selected during the migration.
What changes will be made? 1. Your new e-mail settings will be POP:pop.(domain).yahoo.com SMTP:smtp.(domain).yahoo.com (ex. pop.ameritech.yahoo.com). The outgoing server requires authentication and the login id needs to be (userid)@ameritech.net 2. Instead of accessing your account information at www.ameritech.net you will now log into sbc.yahoo.com. This site has more features and is more stable. 3. Up to 10 sub-accounts. 4. "Premium Services" that include the ability to upgrade the size of your inbox. 5. Web based e-mail access. 6. Nationwide dialup access. 7. Better tech support (just kidding )
What about me e-mail address, speeds, etc.? Your e-mail address will be the same. Your speed plan will not include a gaurunteed minimum speed. 192-364, 364-768, 768-1.5, 1.5-4.0
Do I need to install any new software? Simpy put, no. Non-XP and Mac users have the option of installing the connection manager program that runs Enternet 300 in the background and monitor your connection for possible errors. And non-Mac users can download the Yahoo! browser (Internet Explorer with a different skin) and/or SBC Dialup Connection Manager.
What will happen if someone doesn't migrate their account voluntarily? www.ameritech.net will be disappearing so you won't have a web page to log into to change your password or manage your account.
Is there anything at all about this that could possibly screw up a connection, get someone's speed capped, or anything like that? No.
Will these mail servers be more stable than the crappy servers that Ameritech currently has? I would guess they will be about the same.
So what are the Premium Services? »support.sbcglobal.net/other/4566.shtml
What if I want the software on a CD? Visit »yahoo.sbc.com/activatedsl/download.html and click on CD Request form.
What about my Unbundled Loop? Those will be going away soon but that has nothing to do with the Yahoo! migration.
I can't access my sub-accounts e-mail now. Log into sbc.yahoo.com and select each sub-account and migrate them manually. Make the proper setting changes in your e-mail client. -- »www.tfn.net/~jdbaucum |

| reply to lev I'm home under the weather, so I needed to get my mine off my stomach..I didn't receive my E either...So as long as I was home I decided I might as well migrate...I think all went ok...
I noticed someone asked about their old Yahoo E, etc....Just sign out of your new Yahoo and and sign back in to your old/other account and that will come up...If you need to change something sign out and back into your new SBC/Yahoo account...
You can log into your old/other Yahoo account to receive your E (and Messenger) there and Outlook will receive your old A'Tech E's now SBC/Yahoo...
Edit; Lev just got my migrate letter... Around 12noon... [text was edited by author 2003-01-22 13:06:28] |

| reply to Maxo I migrated successfully but I had to change to my Ms browser to do it. The sbc\yahoo page would not acknowledge my Opera and allow me to to the migration. I closed down, restarted Ms browser and was successful in migration. I would prefer being able to download the software for the dialup connection rather than having it installed automagically but I guess I will survive Thanks for the assist Howard |

| reply to janderso1 I love the Opera browser but it does have it's compatibility issues. I always try Mozilla next then try iexplore. I have like 5 browsers installed. | Thanks... Dial up works just fine (Edit; for XP)...You do not have to D/L it, when asked during migration...At least it worked for me...Just use your DSL id and password...Find SBC/Yahoo dial up numbers for your area on the new Yahoo home page...Don't forget the '1' before the area code...
***I did notice 'Nation Wide Service'...Would that have any affect with with D/Ling their service...?...

It's not just my subaccounts, but my main account. Plus, I wasn't able to submit my subaccounts like you said earlier in this thread. I had to attempt to logon, fail, and then logon to the Yahoo "could not find password" page. |

| reply to janderso1 It didnt fix my Netscape Communicator mail settings and when I changed it manually to smtp.ameritech.yahoo.com I get invalid password/username. Fortunately it did setup a new IE account that works. Does anyone know how to make Netscape mail work?
New mail is also only showing up for me on the old Ameritech servers.
And my mail server cant send through the new server. »Authentication for new mail server?
If you have already had a Yahoo account and didnt merge it, I find you need to access it in a different browser to prevent cookies being overwritten.
Other than email, the transition was fairly painless -- Jim Anderson |

| reply to janderso1 Thanks janderso1, you hit it right on the button.... The email I've been using for years is NOT the primary account... I know what the primary account # is, but NOT the password.... I just checked my old W98 computer Outlook Express. It shows only one email account, the one I've known & loved since May of 2000.
Wanna make bets if I've been given the ok to upgrade???

Anyone with any ideas ?? |
