Well, your problem isn't so weird really, actually it seems we seem to get similar reports every 2 weeks now. This thread summarizes links to other threads with similar problems. » helpAlso check this one just in case: » Problem with Kingston NIC KNE111TXIf you have any questions after *carefully* reading through this material please ask. I suspect if you move the Kingston NIC to another slot things will clear up. |

All right so that didn't work. This type of problem has lately been solved pretty quickly but that has not always been the case. So now we need to get more details on the problem and your setup. So far we know you have a red hot processor and a Kingston NIC. So now you need to tell us:
What modem are you using? Are you using a router? If so, what brand and model. DHCP, Static or PPPoE IP? If PPPoE what software are you using to connect and what version? What OS? What browser and version are you using?
Details on your problem: Has this been occurring since you first got the service? Can you download files? If not what happens when you try? Have you tried this on another computer? Does it work?
So let's start from there and see what we can determine. |

Try taking your modem only to your friends house (that is if he has a good connection) and try it there. If it works, then it is not your modem but something with your lines or computer.
My dad had similar problems with his. He would be surfing and it would just quit. Never lost sync just quit. Found out it was his modem. Since replacing it he has had no more problems. |

dh2806, Some good news is that it doesn't sound like a CO, line or modem problem. We may as well start with the basics. Have you Tweaked your settings yet. There is a remote chance that your MTU may be too high. Run the test in the link and cut and paste it here. If you haven't tweaked do so. As a quick shot in the dark, if you have another NIC card, you should try it. If your friend has an extra NIC borrow it (and the drivers) and try it. Your symptoms can be attributed to a faulty NIC. Do the tweak anyway if you haven't as it can only help things, even on working system. |

Wait a minute, just noticed that you have a Compac with an internal ADSL modem. You say when you use this it only works at twice modem speed, is this true of download as well? Have you tried to tweak with the Compac ADSL card. Did you get a PC from Compac with your DSL? [text was edited by author 2001-03-16 20:08:41] |

Have you tried your friends or any other PC at your house. It really sounds like the problem is in your PC but it would be good to be absolutely sure.
If it is your PC then what I would do next is as follows. I would start with the barest bones of what is needed in the PC to run it. No sound cards, no modem cards, actually no PCI cards (if you can) except the ethernet card. Then move that card from slot to slot to see if it will work in anyone of them. Once it does, start putting in the other cards one at a time and ensuring that the system works each time. If it doesn't work, try a different NIC in the same arrangement. |

Ok, have you tried a different computer on your connection to ensure that it works?
Next will need to do a little research: What is the make/model number of you mother board? Make and model of your Video card? make and model number of both NICs you have tried? |

Two things, still don't know which OS you are using.
Second if you haven't tried, drop your MTU to 1400 and try that.
Still searching for reported problems with your combination of devices. Doesn't look to good the DFI seems to be a solid MB. |

Donnie, Rather than me trying to guess what the best settings are for you, why don't you run a Tweak Test and then post the link to your results. Note don't use the link in the address box but the one supplied below it on the page. Try an RWIN of 16000 if you have one a whole lot bigger than this definitely cut it down. |
