Verizon as an alternative for those cancelling.

I see so many people saying they are cancelling AOL, here's why Verizon is a nice switch from AOL, which is what I did.

AOL by Verizon; One month free, $55-$60(was $55 when I used to have it, don't know about now).

Verizon by Verizon; one month free, 5 months $30, and after that, if you sign up with an unlimited calling plan with them, it's only $35 a month after that. If you don't want that plan, it's $50 a month after the five months.

No contracts for each.

Why to try it over AOL
- No connection software required.
- Even though AOL DSL is provided by Verizon here, Verizon gave me a lot better pings. AOL always gave me pings of 20-530 on the tweak test here, while Verizon DSL gave me 20-35 pings here. And the speeds were a tad higher.
- I haven't gotten ONE SPAM in two months. Compare that to yahoo mail(spam magnet) and AOL(spam magnet that can't sort the spam)

Just as an alternative, since I see tons of "I cancelled AOL!" threads around here.

Re: Verizon as an alternative for those cancelling.

For those who can (its what i meant to put thx red)have roadrunner, it's a faster and in most case, lower pinged ISP. speeds may be up to 3 times faster than verizon both ways (2000/384) and they have lower pings. It might be a little more expensive though (44.95?)

Verizon isn't perfect, they have flaws like all the other companies. Some areas are fine and some are horrible.

1) Chose verizon since it's what AOL PLUS dumbs down, it's the closest to it, and it's cheap.

2) Everyone who hates Verizon uses WinPoet... funny... so did I the first 5 seconds I used winpoet until I deleted it all, and when I did, it was great.

I"m going with Cyberonic, so far it's been a little bumpy, but I think that's because the line I'm getting it on has had problems in the past and isn't very good. Anyways at least the tech support has been helpfull and Worldcom is working on the line now.

Re: Verizon as an alternative for those cancelling.

Still having problems even as of now? BTW, I'm curious but what were you DSLAM stats on your previous trials with DSL? I remember you mentioned about having two lines or something, both of which are of concerns on your loop quality a long while ago.

That is BS. I called them, and they said rythyms has to be the telco or provider or something(I forget all the DSL vocabulary). Cyberonic resells rythym's service for $50 a month, 1500k/768k. Rythyms is available to practically no one, and the only other choice is to have the service of 1500k/768k resold by cyberonic through worldcom, which is over $100 a month. Ifr you are not available to rythyms, you have to get 608k/128k service for $60 a month, RIP OFF.

Its not BS, ask any user on here that has had a good experience with Cyberonic. You can get the service through Worldcom with Cyberonic as your ISP for 49.99. Now if you were to get the service DIRECTLY from Worldcom then it is over $100.

I take back what I said cause it seems Cyberonic has raised the price to $119. It was $49.99 before. My bad just checked their page here on DSLR. But you can still get 1500/768 for 49.99 if you have Rhythms in your area.

Toldja, there is NO WAY IN HELL a service could have that speed so cheap. If it could be that cheap, we'd have 900 reviews a week for them.

And Jonson9688, RoadRunner/Earthlink cable means no servers, P2P can be considered a server, that is all.

It was that cheap, did you check the reviews I posted above. Plus its not available in all areas so there wouldn't be that many reviews.

I don't know what is going on with Cyberonic in terms of billing but with previous references I have done, the service for a 1500/768 line was provided for 49.99 through worldcom and many users are paying at that price as of now. So I can't take your comments as fact as of yet. And yes Rhythm is dead but it's worldcom that Cyberonic is reselling at such speeds (or was from what you are telling us). Though I heard that the price figure you mentioned earlier was for a business type setup, I still cannot confirm as of yet.

2. From what I was told when I signed up, I was getting my service with through worldcom lines.
3. Thers no catch other than plain old service thats it no special progs. no winpoet no nothing just basic emails, 10mb webspace (wich is ftp) and 1500/768 service (1300/640 average from most users).

Re: Verizon as an alternative for those cancelling

Well there you have it Differenciam. I don't know where you got your figures from but people are still paying 49.99 for the services. There's nothing surprising about that anyway. And be aware, like ISP such as DSLExtreme, Cyberonic is a regional ISP (though they are expanding as the rest of them). Depending on where you are, or of cooperative ILEC (although this is not much an issue as of now), and/or distance, you may or may not get service from Cyberonic.

Breacker here in th NY -- Verizon Territory. Being that Worldcom serves in his area, he's able to recieve services from Cyberonic

Differciam: No servers? Does it really stop anyone from making servers? I know plentlyof friends who keep 24/7 counter-strike servers up. What stops them? I imagine that no servers is in the policy of many ISPs as well.
