| Northern Illinois cable update! Don't get DSL
My cable insider just got word that the AT&T / Comcast transition includes an aggressive upgrade plan for Northern Illinois! Goals are to use contractors and In house to complete 90% of the rebuilds by END of 2003!
I'm told the orders for equipment have been placed and the labor ramp up is underway! Yippeeeeee!
I would have liked DSL, but cable is much better. I can't wait for July ( the eta on Fox Lake, IL )
Go Comcast! |

| I'll dance naked at noon at the Hinsdale Oasis if they get cable modems here by the end of this year. No freaking way. They've been telling that lie since 1999. First TCI, then AT&T and now Comcast. They have to. Otherwise the money men would beat them silly. |

| reply to GBockhaut I'll probably give it a try as well if my DSL speeds don't come back in line with what they were. Most likely in June when my current $29.95 deal expires.

| reply to GBockhaut I'll probably be dancing with ya. Had a tech over because we were having some problems with cable tv and was asking the tech when we are getting the upgrades. Said they are just finishing up McHenry and Crystal Lake is next.:)
Got a message on cable box this morning referencing the upgrades. So looks like it just might happen.:) Been waiting to get the HDTV since we just bought a new HDTV. Tech also said that they have until end of 2003 to finish upgrades or face some major fines. -- If God had wanted to go around nude, He would have given us bigger hands. |

| reply to GBockhaut And on another note, news here is that Time Warner and Comcast are going to be raising their rates later this year. I guess that means you get cable for Internet service but your going to pay for it on the television side of it. Just not worth it to me. |

| reply to GBockhaut With the Comcrap and AT&T merger, there were promises made to the towns that should have been rebuilt when @home and Mediaone Express were around. These towns have finally had enough and if upgrades are not completed, the towns are fining them and then saying good bye. Crown Point is one of these towns.
(Edit) Affirm, The only reason that you see the things you do is because proper maintnance is not done to the systems. On a Cisco DOCSIS Router there should be no more than like 200 people (to that Node) AT&T was putting between 300 and 400 on a node. (ex. Downers Grove, and Hinsdale, IL areas.)

| reply to josephjoe Like Josephjoe, I've been waiting forever for internet from AT&T Cable, along with lies and nebulous timeframes (soon!), as well as constant pleas for me to get their local service (via parasitic forced relationship with SBC).
But I can;t get DSL either, along with half truths (SBC is RAPIDLY expanding our DSL service in your area...), and no believable timeframes. (Caveat: The SBC support folk who cruise here, and all the SBC folk that I work with are all top notch, cream of the crop, individuals. I have no beef with them, just with SBC Corp for leaving me out in the cold.)
AT&T may be coming soon, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Who ever gets here first, that's whose service I'm getting. Either one is gonna be better than dialup.
If it's AT&T, I'll hold my nose with one hand while signing on the line with the other. If they offer me local service THROUGH THEIR OWN FACILITIES, then I'll take that too. |

| Yes I would like cable as well. But they need to fix everything here as well I get static on every channel above 3X. First they said it was inside so I rewired everything with the newest best stuff same problem.
