| BAD GAME PINGS
hi I was wondering if anyone could help me with my prob. i have just upgraded to 1mg cable from adsl, mainly for gameing. on adsl i was getting red pings most of the time in yuris revenge, so i cancelled my adsl and went on 1mg cable, which i though would be great for yuris, (NOT) im still getting red pings. i have run a speed test a few times and get the same results 1.1mg d\l & 286 u\l.
thanks in adv......... |

| hello everyone, Im new to the forums and have a question... I've always had low ping around 62 steady and lately I cant get it to go lower than 130. This has been going on for months and isp (AT&T) says everything is good. I've ran speed tests and packet loss tests and everything is fine, also Ive had a few line tech to the house and line is good. Any suggestions, please?..... |

| I have the same problem. Three days ago, my ping sucks for gaming. I did a tracert and noticed that the loop back is 200MS when it used to be 13MS. I also loose about 7 packets for every 50. My ISP is AT&T Also. I have never had a problem up until the last four days (had them five years). They keep telling me everything is fine, but I am about to leave and get DSL. My ping is 13MS in the morning, but around 10:00 a.m., it skyrockets to 210MS. I think that allot of people start using cable around that time and that is why my ping sucks.
I am fed up with paying so much for high-speed internet access and getting idiotic tech support and half-assed speed. They do not seem to comprehend that my ping is worse then 56k now. I guess it is time for a change. |

| reply to FORESTUK I agree i'm on Adelphia Cable. these guys dont care about us gamers. All they care about is how many people they can get on their service. how much money they are making, not how shitty their service is. they could care less. As long as you can surf the net they think all is well. |

| Well, my issue is now resolved. It only took six irate e-mails, two sessions of chat, one visit from a tech and three calls to their Customer Service Department. I am now back to 13MS Ping. Now I just need them to prorate my monthly fee for the times I had to call and seven days with the shitty ping. Feels so good to be back. |

| Im glad for ya... and I wish that it was that easy for me it just seems to be getting worse and worse for me, my ping is now over 200 and they do nothing abot it. Thtey just keep saying its within specs, go figure, and I used to get a low steady 60. Ive had the proble for over two months and they havent fixed crap, all they wanna do is keep sending techs which are helpless since its outta their hands. It has to be something on their network and they are just to lazy to fix it, obviously something need tweaking... And after two months battling with them I have swtich to DSL and will have it soo... later |

| I play counter strike as well and I used to get great pings to my server. I am also using AT&T as well and seems that all of a sudden my choke in CS has went up dramatically, yet most of the tests come back passed.
Im curious as to what AT&T said the problem was and how they fixed it for you Harryhoudini.
I just recently ordered Digital cable as well and Im wondering if the digi cable could be causing problems on my line. If any could help I would appreciate it. Thanks! |

So any idea what the cause of the problem was? |

| reply to FORESTUK Yeah... Cables is screwed everywhere. I think alot of shit ties on here on why were all getting shitty pings and latency issues... for one.. they got to many users per node. second off. This nimda virus going around.. really eats up a shitload of bandwidth... and when everyone comes home from work they turn on their computers on and nimda starts kicking in again... third . There are lots of security changes being made over main backbones... forth ..corprate business [bad engineering]... fifth. tons of people using peer to peer programs like kaaza lite , winmx...etc. sixth Overall Backbone weather [DarpaNet]. So.. if you think about it ..... theres alot of issues to consider. although.. its should be 200+ in the states.. shit.. people in germany get 200 pings to the states... its almost like being on AOL again.. heh damnit.. and i thought those days were over. -- »www.dubfx.com [text was edited by author 2003-02-20 06:59:33] |

ROFL, thats why Adelphia is setting up a specific "gamer" package. Your gonna lose 1 meg of dl speed for 128 k gain in stock upload speed (normal plan). Or for an additional 30-40 bucks you can go up to 384k up/3M down. Yea sounds like Adelphia hates us gamers...ROFL. Considering most games online dont use but a few kilobytes at a time, the ul rate increase is the key for me. Far as losing some dl bandwidth it wont affect online gaming that much, its mainly the choked ul that is hurting us now...but they dont care? Are you kidding me? LMAO. If they didn't they wouldnt be setting up new equipment and packages to specifically tailor service to our {the gamers} needs. Right now Adelphia has it set up for 3M down/128k up. Be patient and watch and see. They are doing it in testbeds in California first to test for any major conflicts/issues...
In reference to the ping issues. A lot of isps are getting hit with DDoS via udp packets. This is what is causing the majority of increases in latency (ping). Also, cold weather affects broadband signal. Especially the shielding inside the wire itself...
I use my rig for web design as well as gaming (counter-strike owns me!). [text was edited by author 2003-02-20 12:35:01] |

No what I said was, they took the base package and added more upload bandwidth (this will help gamers). They have NEVER offered over 128k upload, until now. The decrease/reduction of download speed will not affect gamers. Not significantly anyway. They ul increase however, will help gamers as more data is now capable of being sent from your computer at once...Lastly, none of this really matters much. Considering your avg. game is sending and recieving only 4-6k/s (much lower then your normal rates)... -- The FIRST StealthMode on the internet! 10 years and running.
