| [Connection] Grand Rapids, MI - 50% packet loss on 2/16
Was just wondering if anyone else in Grand Rapids MI got hit eariler with intermediate packet loss. I was pinging through at about a 50% rate. Resetting my router fixed the problem.
I am trying to determine if this is a router problem or a Comcast ATTBI issue. Since it hit me at about 8:45-9:00pm tonight, there are others that would be affected if it was a Grand Rapids issue. Anyone? -- My Domain Nightfall's Hockey and Life Journal |

I didn't notice any packet loss that night. I have had packet loss like that in the past though, but its usually fixed up within the next hour or so. -- 1.2 GHz, 320 SDRAM, Radeon 7500 64MB DDR, 40 Gig HD, WinXP. |

| I am starting to determine that it is my router or my actual cable modem. I have no idea to be honest with you. Still trying to nail down the possibilities. I thought if others had the same problem at the same time as I did, then it could be the service. When no one else is experiencing these issues, it has to be either my router or cable modem. -- My Domain Nightfall's Hockey and Life Journal |

I've been tempted to switch to SBC/DSL with that special 29.95 deal and get satellite for TV due to lost unlimited download of newgroups (heavy user) but I'm 10,140 feet from the CO and probably too far to get 1.5MB d/l. I'm spoiled on the speeds. Didn't mind the extra $10 for Easynews for fills but not liking the idea of $15 to Usenetserver in the future and I've read that SBC's completion sux but the discounted DSL would offset the 3rd party usenet. Will investigate other DSL options I guess. [text was edited by author 2003-02-17 14:25:58] |

| reply to Nightfall I experience major packet loss almost every evening between 6pm and 11pm. I've been sending them ping plots and trace routes for weeks now, but to no avail.
I'd encourage all ATTBI customers in the GR area experiencing these probs to report it to ATTBI. Perhaps if we squeak enough, we'll get grease.
For those of you in the West Michigan area looking for broadband, do avoid ATTBI like the plague. I've had really good luck with the service until recently. I suspect the merger with Comcast is the culprit, but until they get things cleaned up, its a nightmare. Interesting how the problems hit at the same time they raise the service fee big time.

| reply to Nightfall After doing some research, it was my IP directly that was experiencing loss. That was pointing to my router or cable modem. I have since replaced my router and things look good so far. I will keep everyone posted. -- My Domain Nightfall's Hockey and Life Journal |
