| Welcome Hi,
I am happy to announce we now have a VPN (Virtual Private Networking) forum to discuss VPN setup and interoperability issues among various VPN hardware and software.
With increasing penetration more and more people prefer to use cheaper VPN based solutions instead of more expensive dedicated links or slow dial-up connections. Thus, VPN is starting to be integrated more into our daily lives.
Recently more hardware vendors started to incorporate VPN endpoints to their newer cheap home class or SOHO class routing and firewall equipment. However, implementation differences and custom vendor specific extensions makes the life a bit more difficult to use for us mere mortals.
We seek to create an environment to help each other and find out common denominators among different manufacturers. We also hope vendors can participate and help iron out identified issues with their equipment firmwares or software clients.
Our concentration will be on IPSec but we will cover PPTP and L2TP protocols.
Your hosts: DrTCP and SYNACK

Since we just moved in, the walls are a little bare and we need to do some decorating.
An important part would for example be a list of recommended links. All suggestions are appreciated. |

Great idea, and damn don't those mods look familiar. Well at least they are some of the better looking ones. ( its best to butter them up a little bit )
As for links, I think you should include in the links above to the article was it stet, got regarding VPN over wireless LAN. I talked with ZyXEL USA today, and they finally verified that it works (helps to use a co-operating laptop). Thus it is worth posting. -- Life is too short, relax!!You know who you are. If it isn't ZyXEL it probably isn't working |

 | reply to SYNACK Thanks for providing a much-needed forum, DrTCP and SYNACK!
The ZyXEL IPSec FAQ might be one link that could be useful. |

 | reply to Anav Hi to the mods, and thanks for the welcome.
Anav, I agree, the VPN permitting a 3DES tunnel over wireless as a feature of the Zywall 10W should be a link here, I could only upload the support note as a zipped file but perhaps the moderators can put it in a better format (unzipped). That Zyxel permits 3DES VPN's in addition to WEP for wireless networks is good news for users and of interest to those who want VPN's. Though I'd suggest using the native Windows VPN client software as the sentinel was a dog |

| In discussion with the USA office, they will post that as a technical bulletin, probably when they get their new ZyXEL USA website up. That clunky slow loading Zywall site will be improved On your other point, are you sure it was the software and not the user! ;-P -- Life is too short, relax!! You know who you are. If it isn't ZyXEL it probably isn't working

 | Anav I am going to retry sentinel, it has an easier to configure setup (easier to tweak) and much nicer statistic information. At first, I wanted it to work, then wanted performance. Sentinel really didn't get a fair chance, with any luck support on the zyxel forum or here will help resolve sentinel performance issues (besides I'm wondering what the heck I did wrong/different). |

AnavSarcastic Llama? Naw, Just AcerbicPremium join:2001-07-16 Dartmouth, NS kudos:3 | I suspected as much, but do not have any experience with Sentinel and I say too much without hands on knowledge as it is! I hope it can be resolved to your satisfaction seeing as you purchased the product. I do not think that ZyXEL in general would have partnered with the product with such a hit on performance as you first described. But damn my fallible logic -- Life is too short, relax!!You know who you are. If it isn't ZyXEL it probably isn't working |

A couple of links that would be quite useful would be RFC 2408 and RFC 2409, as posted by mbcx8nlp in the thread, ''What is IKE?'' |

coxtaUltramundanePremium join:2000-07-15 LALALALALALA | reply to DrTCP I also recommend that for Checkpoint users, that in addition to perusing the Checkpoint public Secureknowledge page also, check the Phoneboy page for useful information. -- "Frankly, I don't think you could have driven a needle up my sphincter using a sledgehammer."
