USB 2 can support 12MB/s of data transfer. That's shared between all USB devices on the controller... your digital camera... scanner... joystick or gamepad... You don't want your connection to burp just because you've loaded up a webcam, do ya? It would kind of defeat the point of a webcamp...
If you have the option, I strongly suggest NIC over USB, for the reasons I mentioned.
BTW: If you are connected via DHCP and don't have a static address... You will ALWAYS get a different IP address when using different hardware. NIC is different hardware from USB. | |
