I don't think it will cancel.

It's just NOT being advertised real big yet, because of all the uproar by the damn ILEC's in congress and the FCC for allowing this kind of leverage by CLEC's. Might wait a few months to see how all of that plays out.

I can't do it yet, as I'm on speakeasy.net and you can't stack TWO Clec services. Damn ILEC's. to have a CLEC provide dsl, like covad/speakeasy, I have to have SBC's local service
bastards.

new service bundle from Sprint.

I think it's just 38 major metro areas at first, but basically CLEC service, for local, local toll, and long distance, plus those web enabled features.
Don't laugh.
I tried one of my old ION numbers that moved to PacBell to see if I'm eligible. Nope. Then I tried one of my PacBell issued numbers -- Yup, I'm covered.

I'd be tempted to try it except that I'd waste all this time doing a conversion and they'd cancel the service...

I would sign up, but I have speakeasy DSL now, and HAVE to be on the ILEC (SBC) so I can't switch, unless I give up Speakeasy.

We can only hope that a data offering will be coming at some point in this bundle, perhaps wireless as well.

I hope anyway....

It was a terrific resource. Some of us did have problems from time to time -- usually caused by the ILEC.

Note to Sprint ION imitators (which could be everyone if the FCC no-line-sharing rules go through): my biggest problems where related to regular telephone installers interfering with my line, on which they could neither hear nor detect any signal. So, VOIP/DSL MANUFACTURERS, please put an audible signal on those DSLAM to CPE lines -- so the ILEC installers have no excuse if they mess with the customer's line. (I swear that some of those ILEC interference issues were intentional.)

I miss the ION service, features, and cost. I don't miss SBC causing service interruptions every 6 weeks (no kidding) of up to nearly 100 hours.

And I will miss the enthusiasm for the product and mutual aid on this forum.

Ah, the closing of the last bastion of homage to what was once an excellent service.

As someone who has worked in the industry for the last 20 years, I caught news of the ION offering well before it was fielded. Recognizing the service’s potential, I kept in regular contact with Sprint, getting the service installed as soon as it became available in my area (Los Angeles). While I read all of the tales of woe from early subscribers, as posted in this forum and elsewhere, my installation, connection, and operation went without a hitch. For an extended period of time (including a stretch way past any of Sprint's projected "last days"), we had the best, fastest, most up-to-date communication system available in the world, running right in our house.

When I told people that I had run a 8Mbs connection right up to the back of my router, how little I was paying for it, and that my multi-line phone service WITH long distance was not only included in the price but that it also was all digital, they simply could not believe it. I think, as was often promoted on this board, that if you ask people if they’d be willing to pay that price for that service (which Sprint apparently never really did), the overwhelming response would be not only “yes”, but “where do we sign up.”

While I had never had any real technical issues with the configuration, the postings on this board were invaluable in helping to negotiate the Sprint bureaucratic nightmare that was sometimes part of the price of having the service (especially at the end). I thank everyone who shared his or her experiences here for helping in that arena. I think the camaraderie/support shared here is directly reflective of the intelligence of people who were smart enough to realize the state-of-the-art nature of the technology.

I hope we can all meet again someday when someone else is successful in bringing the CNS idea into the modern day.

I was planning on waiting to make sure things are fine, which is the reason for my announcement first, no point in closing things down if there's a valid reason not to...

and I was glad to host the forum, and it was actually a pleasure to do so.

Thanks for hosting a great forum!

I would only ask that if anyone posts that they are still having problems with their rebates, that you leave it open until those issues are resolved. I personally had quite a few problems, but Sprint finally sent me all they had promised me. I respect them for that, but don't respect them for not having the foresight to keep the ION product alive!

Thanks to anyone left here for the help they provided!:)

It's been a fun ride while it's lasted, but considering the amount of traffic left (and that the service has been down for a while), I'm going to request it be shut down and moved into Old Forums soon, just wanted to let people know since I said I would before I actually did so.
