Re: [Rant!] First Problem w/ Comcast...

In that case the FAQ is really confusing, and really doesn't fully answer the question... but whatever, just caused a little false alarm. I'm actually glad it's less trouble to config outlook to check e-mail when off network then as it is w/ ATTBI now.

The FAQ says that Comcast doesn't support off-network SSL connections to their mail servers. It doesn't say you can't make off-network connections at all. (Lawyerspeak in action.)

My guess is, they encourage you to use their website to check email off-network because SSL connections through their web server is no big thing.

Well, then thats great to hear. I don't know why their site has false information. As I posted from that FAQ it says they won't.
With your word I am comforted, maybe it will stay that way.

Noob-
I check my Comcast email at work every day using OE - and I'm not on their network at all.

Set it up as you usually would and you might find it to work.

Well, I have been looking forward to the comcast migration like many other users, and was slightly irked when it came to only forwarding e-mail for 60 days. It looks like that has been extended now, but I did a little research and found you cannot check comcast e-mail using outlook unless you are on their network.
With ATTBI you have the ability to set outlook up to use SSL and other settings to check e-mail even when you are not on their network. Comcast currently does not have that ability. Here is what I found when looking for an answer.

"Can I check my E-mail with Outlook Express when I'm not connected with my Comcast cable modem?

Comcast does not currently offer SSL (single socket layer) connections for subscribers wishing to access POP mail outside of the Comcast network. Notice will be posted on this site if this situation changes. Comcast encourages all subscribers to utilize Comcast Mail for email delivery when not connected to the Comcast High-Speed Internet network. To access Comcast Mail, log in to the Comcast High-Speed Internet home page at »www.comcast.net and click on the My E-mail link in the left navigation. "

I know you can check it online, but it's a pain in the butt when you are routinely off the comcast/attbi network. I leave home every weekend and take my computer with me, and it becomes a huge pain to login every time via web w/ less than 28.8. Long story short; They need to get the ability for Outlook to check mail off the network... and soon.
