Your dsl connection is probably pppoe so you need to set the router to make the pppoe connection and turn off the pppoe software in your computer and set it to connect to the router with dhcp. I've never had a pppoe connection so I can't go into detail but I think that's usually the problem in cases like yours where it works without the router but not with it.
