 Fear this: AT&T petition @ _-* 2159 *-_

All sigs sign, sign for great justice!

Just to clear this up for the thick-headed shark-doggy types who keep on lurching out from underneath the bridge: this isn't my petition.

Someone else thought it up, and someone else wrote out the letter that goes with it. I just use this thread to report on its progress, nothing more.

Yes, I do support the notion that AT&T could have handled this in a much friendlier way that would have even been a win-win. And yes, I, too, signed the petition.

So please, go somewhere else for your thrills. And don't do anything that's going to make me call the SPCA or the Youth Authority to investigate you.

Don't forget the 248 letters sent from »www.consumers4northpoint.org before it went down. This was the site that Dave W. created before he was forced to shutdown. So we really have over 1100 signatures.

Thanks Dave and Sal. Wounded in battle

Their sacrifice is duly noted, and it is my distinct pleasure to award them both the Splooge de Sirop d'Erabe, with the "V" device for valor and a Maple Leaf Cluster for gallantry.

Almost forgot, they also qualify for the AT&T campaign ribbon as well.

(if you don't get it, do a search for "pancakes" on the board!)

 Emotion ruling over logic

It is unfortunate to read through your petition and see all those innocent customers being stirred into a frenzy to make more stupid choices.

1) AT&T is stable and will remain so. They will be beneficial to an industry which is in desperate need of some stability.

2) 100 1000 or 10000 or even 100000 customers dropping services from AT&T will mean nothing to them. They won't even see it as a blip. Why? Cause they know you'll be back.
In the end, if AT&T provides the best service, they will get your business

3) Northpoint suffered from not controling their own marketplace. Why would you wish this same fate on AT&T's own dsl rollout?

All for now

So, we accept them because they're stable? Stalinist Russia was stable, too. Yes, the industry needs stability, but not stability in the aftermath of the shoddy treatment of 120,000+ end users.

I'll go with Rythms or Covad even it they only have two cans and a piece of string to offer me. And you watch, AT&T will attempt to starve out as many of the small fry as possible with impossible-to-pass-up combination deals. Once the competition is gone, who knows?

More than stability, the industry needs regulation to protect end users from the predations of raiders.

How dare you presume to speak to my sense of purpose or the depth of my commitment to dropping any further dealings with AT&T?

I am not a damned blip, thank you.

If AT&T wanted to have a smooth rollout of their own DSL product (believe me, pal., it looks like a lot of the hardware purchased from NPNT is going over to voice service, depending on relative penetration in individual markets), wouldn't it have made sense to do so without spending millions upon millions on marketing costs, not to mention all the skepticism and downright hatred that they're going to have to brook, even if their commitment to DSL is as strong as you think it is?

Just because I buy a car doesn't mean that I'm going to use it to take myself back and forth to work five days a week. Yellow paint and a meter turn it into a taxi cab. And in this way, AT&T isn't going to be forced to use the equipment in one way or another unless a governmental entity steps in and forces their hand.

That's all for now from me.
