Voting

Alright, I've added a couple of *incentives* for voting. You can't see the top pictures without having voted for some, and you can't further upload without having also participated in voting. (taking some lessons from warez and porn sites here

In order to encourage things a little further, I'll also add something for picture owners, to display exactly the votes received so far.

Ok, I have a question regarding the way the voting system works.

Question #1. If you select a person and their photos, eg Sc0tt. Then, I click on the first photo to vote, I'd personally prefer to get the next photo to vote on from his gallery.

Question #2. If I start alllll the way on the first photo submitted, it also randomly picks a photo from the bunch.

Question #3. Is it possible to make voting in such a way that it is less random, it shows the photos you already voted on (possibly with your vote) and also show the score for your own photos??

In the spirit of all such hot or not type sites, the voting page is random, but I could certainly make it give a low priority to ones you've voted on before. Or add a simple "skip" button. You can of course ignore the "voting system" and just click "vote" from the gallery pages, then return to the gallery with 'back'.

Don't forget the number of pictures increases over time.. for many users voting for a few minutes, they will not see the same pictures over and over.

So what is this? Soviet Russia?

So what? Now we HAVE to vote to see the pics? I don't mind if you all need your vanity stroked by having people vote on your pics, but how about leaving the rest of us out of it?

Some of us just want to look at the gallery, admire the pics, and couldn't care less what kind of idiotic contests you might or might not be running.

Re: Voting

Hey! If you two can't behave yourselves, you'll have to go to your rooms. None of that in here!

Does that mean you haven't yet, because so far only way I see is to vote for yourself (which I assume is ignored).

Hi All,

I don't care if you vote or don't, But now you have to vote on the pics to upload a pic into the gallery. I think it is time to start my website again so that I can store, post or direct people to see my pics. If I knew it was going to turn into a contest I would not have uploaded my pic. We already have a contest in the forum. Do we need another one? And now if you do not vote on any pics you can't upload any pics. Punishment for not voting? Oh well.
If my not voting bothers anyone please feel free to delete my picture from the gallery. If you do,you won't hurt my feelings. I am not looking for public acclaim, I thought it was just a gallery. Hey this just my two cents worth.

Since some people don't like the idea of voting, maybe there can be a way to choose if you want your pictures to be voted for like on Fark.

Hmm .. which is easier? Spend hours to create your own website to store and upload your own pictures, so you can admire them yourself, without any pesky obligation, or spending 2 minutes to vote, and use the common one?

Surprise surprise, the gallery here is a gallery for everyones benefit, not for your own personal use in order to save a few bucks on using a web host, as you seem to think it is. Thus you are obliged to follow any and all guidelines, if you wish to use it.

Since voting was added in the first place the number of pictures per week uploaded has quadrupled, and the quality is much better as well. Perhaps you misunderstood the purpose of the gallery.

Quick question,

How difficult would it be to create more of a weekly top 10 where the images submitted within a week have a red background until you vote on them, then in the end of the week highest images get shown in the gallery?

Now that I think about it, why not make the background slightly different color that haven't been voted on so I can vote on specific images easier and I can see which ones I have not voted on.

Having to vote 8 times a week just to see the top 8 photos stinks. Most post photos are way too big for me to allow them to load on this 56k connection, so no way am I going to be voting on those photos at all.

The best vote for the photos I uploaded was an IM from someone who liked one so much he asked if I could email him the full size version so he could use it for wallpaper.

Was the voting system broken?

I see so it has to be ALL about you and you should in no way participate?

Sorry but with all the images here you can't be BOTHERED to vote 8 good or bad once a week.... what makes yours so darn EXCLUSIVELY worthwhile per se?

(Or you just trying to get people to vote yours down for bad attitude?)

I tried what you stated, and I want to for the record have that vote not count. I just wanted to see.
