Megapath/Northpoint line UP again. Very weird stuff. I thought I was already swapped but thats not the case. For some strange reason, my NorthPoint circuit is back up. |

Every time one of you reports something about your lines being back up, I go and check mine just in case someone screwed up and put me back on.

Nah.. You can tell that your line is definitely down for good when the TTL expires while pinging your address from a different line. My modem still synchronized the Sunday after my line was initially brought down, but there was no connectivity to the gateway at my ISP. I try to ping my old IP address from my Telocity/Verizon line, and the final destination hop to my former ISP's network returns 'TTL expired in transit.' When I try to trace my old IP address, the packet is ping ponged in the last two hops until it finally terminates the trace at the set max of 30 hops. Depressing, but true. GOD IT SUCKS TO KNOW NETWORKING WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS!!!! |

It looks like my DSL did finally die, and THEY TOOK MY PHONE LINE WITH IT!!!
My IDSL died sometime Friday afternoon, and then early Saturday morning my regular phone line died. No dial tone.
After telling SWB about it on Saturday, they called me on Sunday and told me they couldn't get a dial tone out of the CO...
They just called me today, from my apartment complex, telling me that "There's a problem with the digital side, there's no problem with the physical wires." They said they'd have to send someone to look at the "digital stuff".
Sigh...
No DSL, no dial tone for a dialup modem... |

Did you check the IDSL line for a dial tone? Maybe they switch them.
I'm waiting for the same thing to happen here. I ordered a second phone line but my IDSL line is still connected to something since I'm getting sync signal from the modem. There are 3 pairs of wires (2 live) coming into my house and I waiting to see how they scramble them. I marked the box outside so I can see when it's been opened.
Great fun, huh? Come on Comcast and cable.

They CALLED you? I know people from conshohocken are special (my mother is from there;)) but to get a call.
I guess they're trying to get rid of all the problem cases like me. I don't expect to see DSL again until Verizon does something with the lines and starts offering it in our area (West Bradford, Chester County)themselves. By that time cable should be in and working.

Here in Minnesota, I went down about 10 seconds after I received the email from Verio about Northpoint. That was back in March. I immediately ordered Telocity through Rhythms as this was my only choice through my CO. I've read the Telocity cancel posts, but to date, I've heard nothing. However, I'm still waiting to hear from Rhythms. I tried AT&T Broadband and found I'm not "upgraded" in my area of the Twin Cities. Their customer service says late fall. An AT&T lineman I stopped on the street says they're not coming in the fall, maybe never. He feels AT&T is trying to cut expenses and rolling internet service to my neighborhood is probably out. I tried Qwest and they said at 13,350ft., I'm too far from the CO. I replied with, "Then how the heck did a slack-off, no-account, two-bit company like Northpoint get me a line that ran 768down and 612up??? The operator replied, "We're regulated and they were not." Next I'm going to call Starband. I'm sure they'll tell me the planet I'm on is too far from their satellite. |

I just received my "Dear Ron" call from Telocity. They told me that they were going to hook me up with Rhythms but they're going out of business so they don't have any choice but to drop me. I think he meant Northpoint. Sounded like a telemarketing set up where people were calling to deliver a message not really knowing what they're talking about.
Remember if Rhythms goes down, you heard it here first;).
BTW-From my experience technically NP was a pretty good company. I never had I day out in a year. I called them once to install and never had to again. Too bad they didn't have the business savvy to go with it. I'm not sure anybody can make it except the Bells.

Hello fellow Gopher/Viking...
My old DSL line was NPNT, bounced from ISP Phoenix to Telocity.
I'm in St Louis Park, MN and close enough to the CO (10-12k feet), so Qwest'll have 640k DSL up for me in 2 weeks. I'm using VISI/Vector Internet Services for my new ISP on the Qwest line, and'll be paying $30 to Qwest and $20 to the ISP, with the first month free, and no setup fees, and it is month to month.
I had the option of using Qwest, Rhythms, or Covad (even though the butt-wipes at Telocity said they couldn't service me any longer, after stringing me along for 3 weeks).
Leave a note about what you find for broadband and the prices, if you don't mind. |

Well, it looks like they finally brought down the MoorestownCO (South Jersey)...When I got home last night my IDSL line was DOA.
Based upon the last email I received, it looks like everything went dark around 2:30 PM.
I checked with some alternate providers but am leaning towards Comcast @ Home and a cable modem...I filled out the online request form last night.
So Carrie, I guess our luck ran out?

I started with Phoenix through NPT at $39.95/mo- setup, connection and service were exellent! Then I had to move from one side of Champlin to the other at the time of the Megapath buyout. They wouldn't hook me up so I had to switch to Verio through NPT at $49.99. Also, setup, connection and service were outstanding. Then the shutdown of NPT took me out. I'm on dialup now. I still have Telocity saying they'll be out through Rhthyms. |

I certainly don't mean the general staff or techs- unlike some people in other posts, I had excellent service, a reliable connection and believe it or not- quick response times. The barb was pointed at the crack upper management that took a fine group of employees, a great technology and a bunch of people's money(like mine) and flushed it. Sorry if anyone took it wrong- especially all those field techs that busted their a... keeping their bosses in the money. |
