If you are still waiting for Telocity, think twice. After waiting over a month, here's what they are now saying to me: ============================= As you know, the recent NorthPoint bankruptcy ruling has caused us to transfer some of our customers to other last-mile providers. After a thorough review of your order, we have determined that your home is in an area that we cannot serve at this time. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience and regret not being able to provide you a DSL connection. However, we will be providing you unlimited dial-up access and continued use of your Telocity e-mail and Web space through the end of May 2001 at no additional cost. ========================== Ugh. |

Yep - mine went down too...it died late Tuesday night and hasn't been active since. If I could get cable modem service I would do that - but I can't. Time to start searching again....I knew our luck would have to run out at some point! -- Is xDSL becoming a four-letter word? |

| reply to JPCass Almost back up (I am hoping)
I have been down since March 28th. Lo and behold i got an email from Telocity telling me my last mile provider was Verizon and my install date for a new line was on the 23rd. Of course the 23rd came and went and no service. I called on the 24th and was told that Verizon couldn't get a line because there were none available in the CO. I asked the person on the phone why they needed a new pair when i already had one, all they had to do was point me to their network and on to Telocity. She agreed with me but didn't have any answers as to why they needed a new pair. She did tell me it was probably going to take up to 120 days to get this resolved. I almost had a stroke, after being without DSL for a month i was not going to wait another 4 months. So i hung up the phone and called Verizon directly and ordered service through them. They told me no problem getting me service but they needed to use another phone number in my house since Telocity owned my primary number with the DSL on it. No problem i have three lines so we went with another number and i was told it would take 15 days. I was given a date when to expect service and that my Modem and installation package was being shipped. One thing i had to do was disconnect the DSL phone jack or rather splice it to the other phone number since the jack for that isn't where the computer is. Well who would have thought today that my new modem and package arrived from Verizon when i got home from work. Just for fun i called Telocity for an update and was told Verizon got my new pair and now they are configuring everything. The rep told me i should be back online within a week. I guess now the race is on to see who can get me my service first. At least with Telocity i have no contract and with Verizon i have up to thirty days to cancel without any fees. All i have to do if Telocity gets me service first is to put the phone line back to it's original state and enjoy my DSL once again. After listening to the modem screech dialing i miss my DSL more and more every day.
I do hope i get my service back soon , i am going crazy without my DSL speed. I feel for all those of you who don't have any commitments or have been canceled by Telocity for what ever reasons, but you do have my empathy and sympathy. If i could i would have a cable modem installed tomorrow but my cable company hasn't wired my neighborhood yet for internet access.

| After no availability of an extra pair in my location, MegaPath decided to this:
Due to issues with the new DSL Service that we have attempted to install, we have entered a new order for you to obtain your former NorthPoint circuit. This process is called a 'hot cut.' The hot cut activity will take place in your local telephone company's Central Office that serves you. It is scheduled on 4/30/2001. Your line should be functioning within 24 hours following the completion of the hot cut. If you cannot use your DSL service within 24 hours following the hot cut, then please contact our Support Team at (877) 634-2728, option 4. Please identify yourself as one of our 'CLEC to CLEC transfers' so that we can properly process your order.
Sincerely,

Anon | Hey! I was still up on 4/24!
Ok, well my line died also on 4/24...Time of Death is uncertain. The line was up when I went home for lunch but dead when I returned home that night.
My outlook was running and the last email I received via DSL was around 2:45 pm. When I manually connected via a dial up and pulled down my email the next email was at 3:30.
So I figure they pulled the plug around 3-3:30ish....
Chipinphilly hasn't contacted me for my prize yet. Maybe it's the GREAT deal Comcast@Home is offering -
Cable Modem access. Free use (no rental charges) of a cable modem for 1 year (actually until 12/01) and the first 3 months of access is only $19.95 (after that it's $33 per month. (This offer is good for users in South Jersey who have the old Garden State Cable as their provider).
Email me with questions - cgersh@sengen.com |

| reply to Anon Well, I hope I didn't just make a bad decision....even though Telocity says they can't find a last mile provider for me, DSLi can - - Rhythms (funny that Telocity can't run me through Rhythms but DSLi can...) Anyway, I just signed with DSli for IDSL ....$99 modem and $149 setup fee, $79.95 a month...*but* I got them to waive the one year contract! Phil at DSLi was very nice - I had questions as to whether or not Rhythms could service me since Rhythms said they could not... he called Rhythms and finally got a definitive answer - yes they can. He also spoke with his supervisor and got the year contract waived for me.
Do you think I should have called Telocity and demanded to know why they couldn't set me up through Rhythms? Do you think I would have gotten anywhere with them?? I would be saving money on the monthly fee, plus the setup costs - or did I make an ok decision to go with DSLi? -- Is xDSL becoming a four-letter word? |

There were few stories about similar cases. I guess their respond means that you are too far from CO for Rhythms, but DSLi made them agree to try. Some of the people finally found out that it's impossible indeed, some others got IDSL. So I don't think there is a way to make sure before you try. Just be ready it can be long and probably unsuccessful.
I guess that there are two reasons why Telocity gave it up: 1 - Rhythms don't want to take new orders for a while; 2 - Telocity don't want even try if they are not sure in success. They have a big headache without problematic switches.
I don't think you can "demand" something from Telocity because they have no any obligation to continue service after NP shutdown. And I suppose they aren't interested to keep all subscribers because they got from dead ISPs more subscribers than they can serve (btw, the same seems to happen with DSLi) -- Alex

| Oh, I know I couldn't demand that Telocity provide service- just didn't know if I called and pushed if they might have set me up through Rhythms I gather that Rhythms isn't taking new subscribers through Telocity but will through other ISPs? I knew that no matter what, the best I could get would be IDSL (another guy at Rhythms insisted earlier this month that I was close enough to the CO to get ADSL, which I insisted had to be incorrect, and I found out that it was indeed incorrect)
I was going to do an ISP switch from Telocity to DSLi back in Feb/March (before the NP buyout) because I was having line problems...then it started working great so I never made the switch...if I had made the switch I wouldn't have had to pay setup costs and DSLi could have just switched me to Rhythms... saving me the setup costs. Oh well - you gamble, you sometimes lose DSLi has had the most reasonable setup/modem costs so far...at least for ISPs that can actually service my location, which seems to be fewer and fewer as time goes on. Also, they were the only place that allowed me to pay month per month with no contractual obligation. Plus Phil was very nice Let's hope their line is very nice too!
I also know it can take a while to set up - DSLi said approx 30 days. Guess I'll just have to see what happens.... -- Is xDSL becoming a four-letter word? |

We have circut test dates of 30 April from Rythmns | IDT | Verizon for our own shop. However the NOC counsels us that Rythmns techs and system is not as efficent as Northpoints, so we need to keep spare modems in place for a while.
We are living on dialup for e-mail and dailup for web acesses. Due to bandwidth of 49K limits we have limited use to essential needs only (means IT gets to hog it all!!!)
I recently have placed order with UUNET for clients for SDSL service (in Englewood NJ via COVAD). Was told by sales that connect time would be between 10 to 12 weeks. Date of entry to COVAD was 25 April. I wonder when this client will be up. |

@optonline.net | Why are you going with Rythmns? They are in the worst shape of any DSL provider out there and will almost definately go out of business unless they get bought out - which is highly unlikely as they have a Billion in debt. |
|
Anon | reply to kderstine3 If you do not want to put a hedge hock in your pants, I suggest that you do not start any business relation with Telocity. Unfortunately they are one of the worst providers, right behind Verizon. Look for other options! If you do not believe me, look at their reviews here on the DSLreports web site.
Good Luck!

I am a Megapath subscriber and my service through Northpoint was cut in late-March 2001. After three weeks and change the service resumed with Megapath/Rhythms. Other than a minor downgrade in speed (416/416 to 384/384) there is no appreciable change. So far with 1.5 weeks of usage, the line has been very solid. It's weird how my line went down with Northpoint and up with Rhythms before some of you even went down with Northpoint. Let's see how long Rhythms lasts. |

Back up in Texas via Everyone's Internet and IP Communications. Piece of cake getting back online after the hardware arrived. I ended up with ADSL rather than the SDSL I had with NorthPoint. I have no complaints since my downstream speed is faster than what I had before and I don't send that much in the other direction. Once again life is good. Best of luck ot everyone else still in the lifeboat. I'd be willing to contribute to the Northeastern IHOP fund if I was closer. Mmmmm, RootyTootyFreshandFruity! |
