surf1953Premium join:2002-07-24 Titusville, FL | I'm So Confused! and it's not about avatars I'm not sure where to go for help, it's either here or in the Web Development forum but since this was my starting point here goes. I've used a few of the fantastic tutorials to make a logo for a customer's web site with PSP 7.04. I wanted to save the image as a .gif but get a message that it will only save one layer so I save it as the .psp in order to make sure I capture both - it's only 2 layers, nothing exotic. On to Dreamweaver MX and when I try to insert the .psp image I get an image placeholder graphic. If I do save the image as a .gif it will open in Dreamweaver but not with the transparent background. Can someone please tell me if this is incompatibility between software applications, file types or should I just give up because I'm out of my element. I've started to think this is just a bad April Fool's joke! Thank you, thank you to anyone kind enough to preserve my sanity. -- Vision without resources is really just hallucination. |

Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction. -- Vision without resources is really just hallucination. |

If you are using PSP7, you click on "layers", and then "merge". Then click "merge all" (flatten). Then, you should be able to save it as a .gif. -- Imagination is more important than knowledge - Albert Einstein [text was edited by author 2003-04-02 13:11:11] |

surf1953Premium join:2002-07-24 Titusville, FL | Once again, thanks for taking the time to help me out. I've tried both types of merge but when I try to insert the image into the Dreamweaver web page, the transparent background is lost. We've given up on PSP and are going to try and recreate the graphics in Fireworks. That merge tip will still come us useful since we continue to use PSP for other things. Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks Thanks Valkyre, I owe you one. -- Vision without resources is really just hallucination. |

Saving layered image as Transparent GIF with PSP Lets say you have this 2 layer image that you want to save as a transparent gif.

First do a File Save As (or a Save Copy As)
Choosing the .gif file type and then click on the Options button as seen here:

On the Save Options dialog click on Run Optimizer...

On the GIF Optimizer | Transparency Tab
choose the Areas that match this color option
use the eyedropper tool by clicking in the color box and then choosing a color from the original image which should be visible in the work area of PSP, also set the tolerance to an appropriate value. The preview of the result will guide your color and tolerance choices. As you see here...

The final image will have a transparent background as seen in this snap from a image viewer.

Hope this helps -- Our first thoughts and prayers must go out to the victims of this war: the soldiers sent to kill and be killed, the civilians who will be sacrificed. In the end we will all be victims of this war! |
