I just looked it up and it uses a dekstop P4 2.4 chip. Don't worry though, it's fine for crunching.

Yeah I just looked it up too... But if he says it overheats after 8 minutes, I wouldn't say its fine for crunching...

Kyle, are you absolutely sure that the processor is a Pentium 4-M? Value priced laptops usually use regular desktop Pentium 4 Processors, which use higher voltage, and have no SpeedStep functions, they produce WAY more heat.

Post the exact model & part # of your laptop and I can look into it for ya...

compaq presario 1525us
Series PP2140

it cost $1,800
Thanks!

Kyle, running UD on your laptop is no different than if you were rendering something in 3DSMax for a couple hours, CPU usage is still 100%. My IBM Thinkpad 1GHz has had no problems running UD 24/7 for the past year... Something must be wrong with it, if it cannot handle even 8 minutes at full CPU load...

Kyle, I have a Dell with that same CPU and it's my back and forth to the office machine. It's off only during commute-about 2hrs per day.

Glad to help if you want to pursue a resolution.

I think this is due to the intel 2.4ghz-M, and it power manegment, it isnt made to be pegged at 100% utilization.

Its the fastest Mobile processor on the market. I dont think these laptops are made for this.

oh well, I had to uninstall UD.

Some laptops can actually be damaged if you run it without the battery...

My friend's laptop had its power supply burned out because there was no load on the battery like there usually was... He was told that if he wanted to run without a battery, that he needed a "Weight Saver" device, which had circuitry inside to prevent any damage, but weighed next to nothing.

If you aren't going to be running around with it you can use a power outlet...
My laptop stays at home so I just ditched my battery.

I also see no reason not to install it.

I have a cache of spare laptops and run it on all of them and have not seen any problems.

UD won't crunch when it's running on batteries so there is nothing to worry about there. I see no reason not to install it
